David Manney Obituary

David M. Manney Sherwood David M. Manney, age 69, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born June 26, 1939 in Flint, to Milton and Evelyn (Folker) Manney. He married Mary Jean Mills on June 27, 1959 in Clio, Michigan. She preceded him in death February 6, 2005. Mr. Manney was a Senior Chief Petty Officer from November 1956 to July 1978, retiring from the U.S. Navy. He also worked at National Water Life Kalamazoo Central Systems, Transguard Industries, Clark Equipment and a substitute teacher in the Clio Schools. He is survived by his children, Douglas (Betsey Williams) Manney of Austin, TX, Karen Manney of Union City, Laura (Randy) Reinstein of Battle Creek, Mary Anne (Greg) Crewse of Leonardtown, MD, grandchildren; Jessica and Jonathon Manney, Nathan and Megan Ward, Jack and Jacob Reinstein, Brittany, Katie and Gregory Crewse; a brother, Milton "Bud" Manney of Flint; a sister, JoEllen Serum of Higgins Lake; and two half brothers, Rodney and Bruce Manney, both of Flint. He was preceded in death by his wife Mary. David graduated from Clio High School in 1958, continued his education at Western Michigan University, graduating in 1981. He was a life member of the Michigan American Legion, a member of the Union City United Methodist Church, a member of Quality Engineers and he was a retired Scout Master. David enjoyed bowling, wood working, fishing, hunting, and he was an award winning marksman. He loved to travel and especially enjoyed collecting furs and feathers for tying flies. Visitation will be Thursday, April 16, 2009 from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Putnam Funeral Home in Union City. Services will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. with one hour of visitation prior to the service at the Union City United Methodist Church with the Rev. Rob Hughes officiating. Interment will follow at Sherwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Union City United Methodist Church.
