Kenneth Prescott Obituary

Kenneth Eugene (Chinny) Prescott Albion Age 81, passed away peacefully with his wife and family at his side, on Wednesday May 20, 2009 at Allegiance Health in Jackson, MI. He was born January 8, 1928 in Marshall to Charles and Bertha (Baker) Prescott. On October 2, 1948 he was married to the former Martha Mills at St. James Episcopal Church in Albion and she survives. He lived in the Albion area for most of his life. He attended Albion Public Schools and graduated with the first Adult Education Class of Albion High School in 1967. He attended reunions of the class of 1946. He was in the U.S. Navy and the Seabee's during WWII, serving in the China Burma India Theater and served 4 years in the U.S. Navy Reserves. On May 29, 2004 he took his wife and daughters to the opening ceremony of the National WWII Memorial in Washington DC, of which he was a Charter member. He was employed with Service Caster for 9 years. He also worked for Consumers Power Co. for 34 years, the last 8 as supervisor in Midland and Albion, retiring in 1987. He worked part time for the company after retiring and also served as Mechanical Inspector, Zoning and Building Official for Clarence Township for 20 years. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Albion and was a charter member of the Sheridan Township volunteer firefighters. He was a member of St. James Episcopal Church, a former member of the F&AM and its council and Chapter, and the Leisure Hour Club. He was a life member of the VFW Post #3672, the American Legion Post # 55, and the Albion Elks Lodge # 1798 serving three times as Exalted Ruler and was also an Elk of the Year. He was a Member of Duck Lake Country Club, the Albion Historical Society and AARP. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, golfing, his Thursday night poker games and Bowling. He never had a hole in one but was proud of his perfect 300 Game. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Martha; 3 daughters, Kathryn Nisse of Lansing, Gayle (Tony) Buscaino of Concord, Denise (David) Wixson of Albion; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; 1 brother, Charles (Pat) Prescott of Parma and a special niece, Deborah Forsyth of Battle Creek; 1 uncle, Edward Baker of Marshall; 2 aunts, Frances Walker of Arkansas, and Evelyn Yinger of Albion; brother-in-law, David (Dolores) Mills of Albion; and several cousins, nieces, nephews, and a host of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Brother Raymond, stepfather Robert Laity, stepbrothers Donald and Thomas Laity, stepsister Patricia Epstien, and 2 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Family and Friends will be from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday May 22, 2009 at the Erie Street Chapel of J. Kevin Tidd Funeral Home, 208 W. Erie Street, Albion, MI 49224 with the Albion Elks Lodge of Sorrow on Friday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Funeral services will be Saturday, May 23, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home with Mr. Conrado Ortiz officiating. Burial will be in Rice Creek Cemetery. MY HEART ACHES, I LOVED HIM SO MUCH. I WILL NEVER FORGET ALL OF THE GOODTIMES HE GAVE ME.

I always enjoyed chatting with Ken when I would see him at Masonic meetings. He had been a family friend for years and knew my folks, Curly and Edna Eddy and family very well. My sympathy to the family on your loss.
