James Smith Obituary

James Morris Smith Battle Creek James Morris Smith, age 89, of Battle Creek, passed away in the early morning on Saturday, May 30, 2009, at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence surrounded by his loving family. Jim was born August 22, 1919, in Overton, Tennessee, to James Alvin and Sarah Ellen (Bilbrey) Smith. Jim was a World War II veteran who served overseas in Central Europe. He was a life member and past Master of West Fork Masonic Lodge No. 648 in Alpine, Tennessee. and Bedford Lodge No. 207 in Bedford, MI. He was also a past Worthy Patron of the Eastern Star, past Royal Patron of the Amaranth, past Worthy Shepard of the White Shrine of Jerusalem. He was a member of Faith Baptist Church. Jim loved music, and in his free time enjoyed playing his guitar, and spending time with his family. He retired from Jim's Country Fried Chicken in 1981. Jim is survived by his wife of 62 years, Ozelle (Tucker) Smith; 2 sons, Dale M. Smith of Battle Creek and Rex M. (Sue Shafe) Smith of Marshall; daughter, Brenda G. Smith of Battle Creek; grandson, James C. Smith of East Lansing; and 2 sisters, Rubye Howell of Allred, Tennessee and Bertie Hargis of Muncie, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Alva Marlow, Nora Ledbetter, Virgie Linder, Mollie Linder; and brothers, Van Smith and Haskel Smith. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or memorial services. Donations in his name may be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence, 5470 Glenn Cross Road, Battle Creek, Michigan 49015. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.
