Kenneth Scheick Obituary

Kenneth L. Scheick Ceresco Kenneth L. Scheick, 86, of Ceresco died at home on Friday, June 5, 2009. He was born in Battle Creek, MI to Lewis F. and Maggie (Brooks) Scheick on November 20, 1922. Ken graduated from Lakeview High School in 1940. In 1983, he retired as a car inspector from Grand Trunk Western Railroad, where he was employed for 42 years. Ken served during WWII in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator and after the war served in the U.S. Naval Reserve until 1956. Most of his life he had also operated his farm in Newton Township. Ken married Gertrude E. Baker in Marshall, Michigan on June 27, 1944. She preceded him in death December 31, 1990. He is survived by a daughter, Cheryl S. Scheick of Ceresco, sons Terry (Dolly) Scheick of Reynoldsburg, OH, Steven (Pam) Scheick of Portage, Richard (Sheila) Scheick of Ceresco and Michael (Renee Cole) Scheick of Schoolcraft; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many nieces & nephews. In addition to his wife, Gertrude, he was preceded in death by his parents; a son Lewis F. Scheick, in 1972; a child at birth in 1947; a half-sister Catherine Brigham and half-brother Carl Hiegert. Ken was an active member of the farming community and former member of the Home Grange. He enjoyed making rugs, riding his quad, traveling, farming and spending time with his family. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 2:00 - 4:00 & 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Ken's life will be held at the funeral home 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 10, 2009 with Rev. Dr. James M. Gysel of Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow at DuBois Cemetery in Battle Creek. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Alzheimer's Association.
