Daisy W. Lamberton Battle Creek Daisy W. Lamberton, age 90, of Battle Creek, died on Saturday evening, June 6, 2009 at her residence, Bickford Cottage of Battle Creek. Daisy was born on April 27, 1919 in McBain, MI and was the daughter of Jon and Mary (Clemence) Wassenaar. She attended schools in McBain, Hastings and was a 1935 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. Early employment was with the Weston Biscuit Company, several area telephone exchanges, and Percy Jones Hospital. Daisy transferred from Battle Creek to Washington, DC to work at the Pentagon. There she prepared reports of news briefings, press conferences and current events occurring nationally and internationally and had the opportunity to see high level dignitaries, world leaders and presidents. Daisy retired in 1977 from the Office of the Secretary of Defense and Public Affairs at the Pentagon after more than 30 years of government service. Daisy was a member of the Royal Mothers of Queen City, Chapter # 16, Order of the Amaranth; the Battle Creek Chapter of White Shrine of Jerusalem; the Battle Creek Order of Eastern Star, Chapter # 135; the Daughters of the Nile and the Pentagon Order of Eastern Star. She was a member of the Barry County (MI) and Battle Creek Historical Societies. On June 7, 1944 in Camp Ellis, IL Daisy was united in marriage to George A. Lamberton, who preceded her in death on February 2, 1959. Surviving is her daughter, Elizabeth Belle Mary "Betsy" Lamberton Brown of St. Clair Shores, MI; her sister Harriet Reed of Springfield, MI and many nieces and nephews. Daisy was preceded in death by her parents; brothers Fayette and Richard Wassenaar and three sisters Margaret Hale, Marion Wassenaar, and Florence Edgin. At the request of her family, friends may call on today, June 10th from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, Battle Creek. The funeral service to celebrate Daisy's life will be held on Thursday, June 11th at 1:00 p.m. at the Funeral Home with the Rev. James S. Codde, Chaplain for Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice, officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Custer National Cemetery, Augusta, MI.
