Dorma Moore Obituary

Dorma Lee Moore Battle Creek Dorma Lee Moore, age 71, of Battle Creek, Michigan, passed away Monday afternoon, June 8, 2009 at her residence, surrounded by family members following a lengthy battle with cancer. Dorma was born December 29, 1937 in Battle Creek where she was a lifetime resident. She was born the daughter of Kenneth and Mable (Walker) Barlond. Dorma graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1956, and then attended Argubright Business College. She was united in marriage to Otis C. Moore for 30 years. She retired from Kraft Foods Post Division after 38 years of service, retiring in 2000. Prior to that, she worked as a clerk for Hamblin Ave. Body Shop (1956-1958), the concession stand at Battle Creek Auto Theatre (1954-1955), and as a car hop at Andy's Drive In (1949-1953). She co-owned Spring Lake Gulf Service (1971-1974), owned and raced standard bred horses until 1991. She was a member of the Post 25 Year Club and the United States Trotting Association. Dorma loved cooking, knitting, playing cards, Broadway plays/musicals, being outside caring for and mowing her lawn and mostly watching her children and grandchildren's sporting events. Dorma always went above and beyond to help anyone in need, especially her friends and family. Dorma was preceded in death by her parents, 3 sisters: Deloris, Patty and Joyce, and one brother: Jay. She is survived by her two brothers: Charles Barlond of Bellevue and Kenneth Barlond of Pennfield Twp (Battle Creek). Her four sons and their spouses: Michael O. Moore of Akron, NY; Rory D. Moore of Plainwell, MI; Craig A. and Maureen Moore of Beaver Creek, OH; and James R. and Dawn Moore of Battle Creek, MI. She also leaves 5 granddaughters, 7 grandsons, 1 great-grandson, and 1 great-granddaughter. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Friday at the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present from 4 - 8 p.m. Graveside services will be held Saturday June 13, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor James L. Sparks officiating in the chapel of Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial tributes may be made to American Cancer Society or the Cancer Center of Battle Creek Health Systems.
