Harrison Gammons Jr.

Harrison Gammons, Jr. Battle Creek Harrison Gammons, Jr., 86, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully on Saturday, June 6, 2009 at Heartland Health Center in Battle Creek, MI. He was born October 25, 1922 in Sneads, FL the son of Harrison Gammons, Sr. and Ardalia (Thompson) Gammons. Harrison had worked for 30 years as a supervisor at the Dorsey Skill Center for Miami Dade County until he retired in November 1985. While in the US Army during World War II he was a private first class, Harrison received the Good Conduct Medal, the World War II Victory Medal, the ATO Medal, the APTO Medal, and the Philippines Liberation Medal. He was formerly married to Mary Felton; however she passed away in May of 2005. Harrison is survived by his stepdaughter, Willette McGee of Baltimore, MD; two daughters, Joyce Latimore of Pembroke Pines, FL; Dolores Higgs of Atlanta, GA; three sons, Rodney & Carmen Gammons of Pembroke Pines, FL; Shawn Gammons of Battle Creek, MI; Curtis Gammons of San Diego, CA; two brothers, James and Betty Gammons and Mose Gammons all of Panama City, FL; ten grandchildren, Sherrelle Mobley of Atlanta, GA; Stephanie Lockhart of Miramar, FL; Jamal Lockhart of Miramar, FL; Tametha Latimore of Miami, FL; Shamikki Gammons of Atlanta, GA; John McGee of Miami, FL; Latoya Higgs of Atlanta, GA; Rodney Gammons, Jr. of Gainesville, FL; Raenatta Gammons of Boston, Mass; and Shani Gammons of Battle Creek; five great-grandchildren, Jordan Brown and Jhadeyn Brown both of Miami, FL; Amari and Thavia both of Atlanta, GA; and Jasmin McGee of Miami, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Clarence Gammons (1978) and Leroy Gammons (1995), and his sister Rowena Gammons (1958). Visitation will be held at the Christian Memorial Chapel, 5441 Cooper Street, Graceville, FL on Wednesday. Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 18, 2009 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Evelyn Wilcox officiating at the Mt. Sinai AME Church (Sneads, FL). Burial will follow at the Mount Sinai Cemetery in Sneads, FL. Memorial tributes may be made to American Cancer Society.
