Albert Hewitt Obituary

Albert D. Hewitt Battle Creek October 4, 1923 -June 11, 2009 Albert "Al" D. Hewitt, 85, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2009 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence in Battle Creek following an extended illness. He was born on October 4, 1923 in Berea, Kentucky to the late Ralph and Maggie (Griffin) Hewitt. On August 12, 1977 Al married Lavonne Harris at a ceremony in Battle Creek. Al was a proud U.S. Army veteran. He worked in manufacturing most of his life and retired in 1985 after working many years at Rich Manufacturing and Michigan Carton. He was a member of New Hope Apostolic Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. Many will remember Al's interest in metal detecting and all of the treasures he has found through the years. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers David and Henry Hewitt. Al is survived by his loving wife Lavonne of Battle Creek, three daughters; Chritine (Stanley) Hill of Dowling, Michigan, Kathleen (Douglas) Jackson of Battle Creek, Michigan and Carolyn Greenman of Albion, eight grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren a brother Lance Hewitt of Battle Creek and a sister Leone (Leroy) Nance of Sterling, Illinois. A visitation will be held on Monday, June 15, 2009 from 5:00 7:00 p.m. at New Hope Apostolic Church 13416 West Michigan Avenue, in Marshall, with a memorial service at 7:00 p.m., Pastor Doug Fleury officiating. A private interment will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery in Augusta, Michigan. A memorial fund is being established in Al's memory and contributions may be made to Brown Funeral Home 521 E. Main Street, Niles, Michigan 49120. Condolences, photos and memories may be shared with the family at www.brownfuneralhomeniles.com. Arrangements have been entrusted to Brown Funeral Home, Niles.
