Dorothy Crooks Obituary

Dorothy Irene Crooks Battle Creek Dorothy Irene Crooks of Battle Creek passed away Monday, June 15, 2009 at the Calhoun County Medical Care Facility. She was born January 29, 1920 in Iron River, Michigan the daughter of Fred W. and Martha Marie (Peterson) Merrick. Dorothy was a 1937 graduate of Alpha High School in Alpha, MI, received her B.S. Degree in Home Economics from Eastern Michigan University in 1941 and her Masters Degree in Personnel and Guidance from Columbia University Teachers College in 1946. From 1941 to 1944 she taught Home Economics at Battle Creek Public Schools and from 1944 until her retirement in 1981 was a school Social Worker for the Battle Creek Public School System. Dorothy was a member of the First Congregational Church, Kappa Delta Pi, Veterans Motor Car Club of America, Battle Creek Society of Artists and P.E.O. She enjoyed painting, golf, bowling, antique collecting and crafts. On August 7, 1965 she was married to Robert Ernest Crooks in Topinabee, MI who survives. Also surviving are her son, Michael Merrick (Lori Lynn) Crooks of Leslie; daughter, Tamara Crooks of Battle Creek; and three grandchildren, Mara, Stephany and Robert Crooks. The family will receive friends at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home on Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Leah Robberts-Mosser officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the charity of your choice.

It is with extreme sadness that we learned of our friend Dorothy Crooks leaving us.We can recall so many wonderful times we spent with Dorothy and her husband Bob spaning many years.
When ever we were togather Dorothy was always a model of graciousness and fun .A nicer person would be hard to find.
We would like to offer our sincerest condolences to the Crook's family.
