Debra Broughton Obituary

Debra Louise (Perkins) Broughton Battle Creek Debra Louise (Perkins) Broughton, 49, passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2009, in Rockford, Illinois. She was born on December 31, 1959, in Battle Creek, of David Perkins, Sr. and Lula (Mitchell) Perkins. She is survived by daughters, Christina (Anthony) Broughton-Spiller of Jersey City, NJ; and Audrea Broughton of Battle Creek; son, Bruce Broughton, Jr. of Battle Creek. Also surviving are mother, Lula Grimes; brothers, David (Trina) Perkins and Minister Duane (Chitar) Perkins of Battle Creek; William (Sonya) Perkins of Rockford, Illinois; sisters, Elizabeth Perkins of Tampa, Florida; Natasha Clark of Battle Creek; as well as ten step-siblings. She was preceded in death by father, David Perkins, Sr., step-father, Leroy Grimes, as well as step-brother, Carl Grimes. She was previously married to Bruce Broughton, Sr. Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 9, 2009, at Maranatha Original Church of God with Pastor Geraldine T. Richardson officiating.

It broke my heart to hear of Debbie's passing. She was the real deal - a genuinely good person, with a warm and gentle nature that immediately put anyone at ease. It seems like just yesterday I could hear her infectious giggle in the halls of Battle Creek Central.

Deb was one of the sweetest people I've ever met. Her laugh always made me smile and she will be dearly missed. I couldn't have asked for a better cousin. I always looked forward to her picking me up during my summers in Battle Creek. My condolences to the family.
