Memories and Condolences
for Kevin Lindauer

Not sure what to say?

August 24, 2009

To the entire Lindauer family our deepest sympathy. His loss leaves another gap in our family on earth. A favorite remembrance of mine is of Kevin in an "official" Ploehn reunion picture when he was very little sitting on his (& my) Aunt Maxine's lap in the front row. He was so adorable everyone wanted to hold him but we all had a hard time getting him away from Maxine! I know he's being and will always be comforted by our whole family in heaven. He will never be forgotten by all who remain.

Much love always, Carol (Ploehn) and Art Wesa, Indio, CA

To the Lindauer Family, Mr. Lindauer, Mark and Terry, my thoughts and prayers are with you.
Kevin was a very special student athlete to me because of his great character and his dedication of what he did in life from his school studies, athletics and as a firefighter.KEVIN WAS A WINNER.His trademark was his smile and his quietness, but he talked with his actions. I am proud and priviledged to have been a part of Kevin's life.
I had the opportunity to visit with Kevin in February 2005 in which Kurt got some the Springfield Football together to visit with me. Kevin and I had a great visit which I will always remember.
My God bless the Lindauer Family.

It is hard to believe that "Big Kev" is gone, but will never be forgotten. Kev's big smile will always be in my thoughts. I will also always remember playing golf with him and he was ticked off because I always out drove him. (I think he let me). He was a very humble person and I will miss him tremendously.

I remember Kevin when we wrestled together and he always had that Smile for everyone he ever talked to. He, along with other members of the TEAM was a huge part in making my High School Days very special and memorable. Those days are gone but never forgotten, nor are the Friendships. Will always remember the happy Moments with Kevin and the Fun he helped make my life as a teen.

From my fond memories, I recall a young man growing up playing in a neighborhood where everyone knew each other by learning, experiencing, and enjoying life: War games in the sand dunes, the many bike rides to Blue Lake, hiking in Fort Custer, hockey matches in the swamp, building the biggest snow forts, snow ball fights, camping out overnight. Kevin always had that big smile he sported. He eventually moved on after high school to college, making his mark on the world. I was much younger than Kevin; even though he was a neighborhood kid, he was like a brother to me. Back then, my recall is that we were all pretty tight. After he left to go off to college, I only saw him a few times when he would stop in up at the high school to work out with the wrestling team, which I personally appreciated very much. (Wish Kevin would have told me what I would be in store for in college)
I never did see Kevin after that (78-79). In my second year at Ferris, in my economics class, my instructor started talking about a student at Central Michigan who was trying to save money by living in a tent out at the nearby campground while attending CMU.
Kevin never would have attempted this if it wasn’t for being a kid growing up in Newtown.
God Bless you, Kevin.
Lord, please left up Mr. Lindauer, Terry and Kevin’s family. May you help them through this rough time. Help them understand that Kevin’s in awesome place now, alongside his mother. Let’s remember God sacrificed his only son, Jesus Chris,t who died for our sins.
In Christ’s name, Amen.

Kevin, I think of you as my brother. I remember so many cool times we had together. We were kids together, then we were teens together, then we were men together. I brag to all my friends that I trained the heavywieght champ. The summer of 69 on my six foot wrestling mat we wrestled and at that time I talked you out of playing basketball and you and me joining the wrestling team. You became one of the greatest wrestlers I have ever seen. Sometimes you made it look so easy! When you knew I was struggling you knew just the right words to say to pump me up. You were the superstar but you treated me like I was. I was so honored you were in my wedding. And man did you guys trash my new car!!!!
OH ya! You, Hogan, Morgan, Bonnell, Grider! I loved playing pool at your house. Your Mom made the best German Chocolate cake I ever had. And that green homemade beer we drank in your parents basement frigerator. Opp's sorry Mr. Lindauer. You had my back when four punks started a fight with me. All you did was pick one up and throw him ten feet in the air and the fight was over all was calm. You, me, Hogan, and ya good old Ron Carter had some times. My only regret Bro is I was coming to see you this summer. Your Dad told my Mom you were sick. I appoligize old friend. I got caught up in my work and did not get back in time. I would have done anything for you! And you the same for me! I will never forget you big man! I love you and will never forget you!

Somehow the sweetest memories shine through sadness. Popping into my head are some from long ago... Kevin laughing at me when he beat me at chess in the house in Newtown, telling me not to laugh so hard or swing my arms when we went jogging around the circle because it wasted energy and a photo I can't find of him preening with a paper plate bouquet of bows from my wedding shower. He was always sweet and funny. I am so sorry to hear of his passing. So very sorry also for all of you - Richard and Donna and Mark and Teresa and Terry and Lynn. My heart really goes out to you all. I know you did everything you could and loved him more than anyone can imagine.

I met my nephew Kevin when he was 13 years old and I was 21. He was a great kid and he, for his entire life had that great infectious smile. I don't think Kevin ever had a negative thought about anyone. He was always a great big kind teddy bear.

:) I have read many of the entries in the guest book and most talk of Kevins' smile; in my memories I can't recall a time when I didn't see a smile on his face, he always had a smile, loved that and many other things about him. You know, you were there. I find it unfortunate for me that I was two years older than Kevin in school, instead of two years younger; I believe I could have learned from him instead of him learning from me. I didn't get to see the extent of how great he had really become.
Now, I'm saddened, in my many returns to Springfield over all these years I didn't get to once again see and talk with Kevin. I had heard about how he was doing and things like that from other friends of his I met from time to time. To his family and friends, my condolences but remember ANGELS must fly. :) Sincerely, Bob.

I'll always remember that family reunion's, holidays or any time the family got together, Kevin's laughter and smile always made the day a little better. I loved watching him wrestle at Springfield and how excited the family got when he won(which was often). Lots of fun rounds of golf at Pine Knolls Golf Course. Kevin Indian wrestling with Sally....great memory. We'll miss you Kevin, but you'll always be with us. Rest in Peace Cousin.

My memories of Kevin will always go back to the two-room school house the "Newtown Kids" went to. All through school I never saw Kevin without that most memorable of all grins and smiles. What a great legacy to leave us all. May comfort come to his family and friends knowing they have an angel in heaven looking down on them, still smiling.

Kevin was a great man and a superb cousin. A real hero as a BC firefighter and with his athletic accomplishments. I was in awe growing up watching him and Terry, as well as Kurtis, excel at so many diffrent sports at Springfield. I remember my Dad referring to him as "Magilla the Gorilla" and still remember him pinning an opponent in 6 seconds. Remember him playing for CMU against WMU and being able to go on the field after the game. I still have a copy of the Sports Illustrated where he appeared as a "Faces in the Crowd". And he and Mark are two true heroes for their service as firefighters.
He was a great person and I will truly miss him. My condolences to Uncle Dick, Mark, Terry and their families as well as to our entire Ploehn family and Kevin's brethren at the Firehouse.
I know my Dad and Uncle Karl are really happy to see Kevin again, even though it happened WAY too soon.
