Mary Cummins Obituary

Mary Joannet Cummins Battle Creek Mary Joannet Cummins, 81, passed away on September 19, 2009 in Battle Creek. Mary (Jo) was born to Viola and Frank Conley in Marshall on October 2, 1928. She graduated from Marshall High School in 1946 and married Phillip Dale Cummins, also of Marshall, on April 12, 1947. They were married for 62 years and have four children: Bob of Ft. Collins, Colorado, Tom (Nancy) of Grand Rapids, David (Margo) of Climax and Mary (Tim) Mix of Battle Creek. Jo was employed as a telephone operator in Marshall and as a grocery clerk at Wayne's Market and at the A & P store in Battle Creek. She made most of her own clothes throughout her life and enjoyed golf, playing pool, dancing and traveling. She was also a great cook, gardener and home maker and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. Preceding Jo in death are her parents, sister Gloria and sister-in-law Shirley (John) Dodge. She is survived by her loving husband Phil, her children and granddaughter Alexa. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Humane Society of South Central Michigan at 2500 Watkins Rd, Battle Creek, MI 49015 or to the Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence of Battle Creek at 5470 Glenn Cross Rd., Battle Creek, MI 49015. At Jo's request, cremation has taken place and the family will be honoring her wonderful life in a private gathering. Arrangements by Spencer Family Funeral Home, Athens. To Phil and Mary's (we knew her by "Jo") family, my dad is their neighbor and has been for quite a few years. She was such the sweetest lady you would ever want to meet. I am so sorry for your loss, we will miss her as well. May god be with you in your time of grief.
