Donna Rapp Obituary

Donna J. Rapp Marshall Donna J. Rapp, age 73, died on Tuesday evening, Sept. 29, 2009 at Oaklawn Hospital. Donna was born on Nov. 25, 1935 in Marshall to Donald L. and Marguerite J. (Cassens) Hess. She has lived in Marshall all of her life. Donna was a 1953 graduate of Marshall High School. Donna enjoyed attending dances at the B.E. Henry Building in Marshall as a young woman. There one evening she met a soldier home on leave by the name of David C. Rapp. He was smitten and followed her back to her parent's home after the dance! When he returned from the service, they reconnected and fell in love. The couple was married on Oct. 27, 1956 at Zion Lutheran Church in Marshall. He preceded her in death on.Feb. 18, 2008. Donna worked for 5 years at State Farm Insurance Company Regional Office in Marshall until becoming pregnant with their first child Paula. She then became a home maker and mother. Donna was a lifelong and active member of Zion Lutheran Church where she was a member of the Altar Guild, and Women's Association, which she served as president for many years. Donna and Dave enjoyed square dancing and camping together at Tri-Lake Trails, as well as winters in Florida. She was a charter member of Rolling Squares Campers Club. She liked to bowl in Marshall leagues. Donna also liked to do word searches and jigsaw puzzles. Spoiling her grandchildren was a favorite pastime! Surviving are her daughters, Paula (Charles) Miller of Homer and Diane Rapp of Marshall; her son, Tim (Sandy) Rapp of Battle Creek; 7 grandchildren Rebecca (Jason) Fry, Kristen Miller, Jennifer Miller, Alecia Rapp, David Rapp, Nicholas Rapp and Brandon Rapp; and her brother James Hess of Grand Haven. She was preceded in death also by her parents and her brother Ronald Hess. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 Old 27 North, on Friday from 2p.m. to 9p.m. with family present 2p.m.-4p.m. and 6p.m.-8p.m. to greet friends and share memories. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at 1:30p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger James officiating. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens in Battle Creek. Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church or Oaklawn Hospice. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf Funeral Home.
