Glenn Bell Obituary

Glenn E. Bell Battle Creek Glenn Elden Bell, 85, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully after a lengthy illness at his home on Wednesday morning, September 30, 2009 in Battle Creek, MI. He was born February 14, 1924 in Cornland, IL the son of William R. Bell and Ada F. (Danks) Bell. Glenn had worked as a packaging line operator for the Kellogg Company for 21½years, retiring in 1987. Prior to Kellogg's, he had worked at Oliver Corporation (Farm, Aviation & Outboard Motor division) for 23 years. Glenn had served his country during World War II in the U S Army as a Technician Fifth Grade with the 103rd General Hospital; where he received citations for European-African-Middle Easter Service Medal, American Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the World War II Victory Medal. He married the former Beuna "Boots" M. Morgan on June 2, 1973 in Battle Creek, MI.; however his beloved wife died in July of 2001. He is survived by a step son: Jerry T. "Tom" Byrd of Battle Creek, MI; a sister: Adele Nelson of Watson, IL; nephews and nieces: Ken (Marcia) Bell of Union City, MI; Tom (Peggy) Bell of Battle Creek; Darrell (Saundra) Bell of Athens, MI; Lois E. Bell of Battle Creek; Frances Cutler of Fort Wayne, IN; also surviving are several nieces and nephews living out of state. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, his wife; three brothers: Elvis Bell, Darrell Bell, and Klyne Bell; and a sister: Eva Evans. Glenn graduated from Effingham High School in Illinois, graduating in 1941. He was a member of the NRA and an avid Detroit Pistons fan. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, flying his airplane, photography and developing his pictures, collecting a variety of guns and rifles, collected whiskey bottles & beer cans. He adored his wife Boots, and loved his dog - "Lady." He and Lady would get their exercise by taking long walks together. He enjoyed going to the Upper Peninsula and staying at a cabin on Otter Lake. At his home, he proudly enjoyed gardening where "not a weed in the garden" could be seen. Visitation will be held after 9 a.m. on Friday at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service where the family will be present from 4-7 p.m. Funeral services commemorating the Life of Glenn Bell will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday October 3, 2009 in the Bachman Funeral Chapel with Rev. Carolyn Robinson-Fisher of Christ United Methodist Church officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at the Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to Humane Society or Alzheimer's Association. Arrangements by the Bachman Hebble Funeral Service, a member by invitation Selected Independent Funeral Homes.
