Dear Nedra and Family, I am sorry sorry to hear about Dick. He was one the best instructors I have ever worked with. He always added a sense of humor to the simulator and always had good stories at dinner. He will be greatly missed by a lot of people!!!

Had many a great simulator session with Dick. We worked side by side in standards at Kalitta/AIA and shared many a meal and a drink or 2.
Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Dick will be greatly missed as a friend and professional aviator. We wish Dick Godspeed on his final flight West.

Dear Nedra and Family, We were so sorry to learn of Dick's passing. This was a tough loss for me. Dick was one in a million. We will certainly miss him and his wry sense of humor, as evidenced in his e-mails. So long, old buddy.

My wife and I were shocked to hear Dick had passed. He was one of my favorite simulator partners and I remember the many times we shared an olive soup (martini) after doing a double in the Denver sim.
When Holly and I invited him to our wedding in 99, we made sure to have the gin, vermouth and as many olives as would fit in a glass for uncle Dickie.
All who knew him will miss him much.

I haven't seen Dick since the Calhoun County Fair, probably 25+ years ago. We both went to Marshall High, and were both in the Michigan Air National guard togther and both started flying about the same time in the Battle Creek and Marshall area. While Dick went on to flying the big equipment I stayed with light aircraft, stil own and flying a Cessna 182. My career went on to be a Air Traffic Controller at the Indianapolis ARTCC where over the early years I had many occasions to say Hi to Dick when he was flying the air cargo runs. Dick will always be remembered. My sympathy to all the family.

Words escape me, I can not begin to relay what an important roll Skippy played in my life. He taught me about how to stay alive in the air and on the ground. We shared many of those "did we just survive that or what moments", that sometime happen in Alaskan aviation. I will miss the spring time visits and Saturday calls.mostly I will miss the dry humor and great laughs and his perspective of how things are or should be.When he asked me to spread his ashes a few years ago I told him yes, but that he had to wait quite a few more years. It will be with a great since of loss that I will keep my promise to Skippy.

Dear Nedra and Family: Oh how sorry we were to hear that Dick had passed away. Grant remembers the times when Dick would buzz Roy and Agnes' house and Roy would laugh and curse at the sametime. Knowing Dick for all of his life Grant was so thrilled when Dick was able to fly over Alaska. One room school, movies at that school and going to the Lord house. And living at the Lord house when their house burned when Grant was a child. I don't know if you remember, but Grant and I lived in the "Lord" house for several years after Agnes passed away. To know that Dick will be in those beloved mountains warms our hearts. You take care and know that we are praying for you and your family.

Dear Nedra and family,
We were so shocked and sorry to hear about Richard. Although we've only spent time together on two occasions, since our visit in 2004 he has kept us smiling with his many and varied e-mails and we'll really miss him. Our thought and prayers are with you.
With love from cousin Gwen and all the family in the UK.

Nedra, I am so sorry. I will remember Dick coming to band in his convertible with the tuba in the passenger seat. We saw the Ahwatukee band grow from fewer than 20 to over 50 members and had such a good time on the back row.
Every day I think of more happy memories from the years I have known you and Dick.
Love,

My many good memories working with Dick over the years date back to the early 60's when he first joined the Zantop/Universal gang with us. It didn't take long after that for him to become an accomplished non-skedder and revered credit to our craft. It was always enjoyable when our career paths crossed after Universal...for a time flying the Hansa Jet at Zantop Airways and later with Trans Continental at Willow Run. He will be missed. God speed, Captain!
My condolences to the family and loved ones.

Nedra and family,
My deepest sorrow to learn of Dick's passing. He was always the gentleman's gentleman that I knew and respected so well during our many years together at American International Airways(Kalitta). He was only two years ahead of me in retirement from the captain's seat on the DC-8. Now at 72, I am still with Kalitta Air, flying "side saddle" on the B747. Dick would have appreciated that, knowing someone near his age is still in the game. May your adjustment without Dick's physical presence be an easy one reflecting on all the wonderful family moments together. God bless you and keep you during this time of bereavement. - Chris (Cap'n CJ)

Dear Nedra,
I was so sorry to hear about Dick, my best of wishes to you and the family. The very best Christmas I can ever remember was the year after my father died, mom, Uncle Roy, Aunt Agnes, Grandpa and I came to Ohio to spend Christmas at your home. That was the year you had the little car and you got caps for the family. That was also the first time I had ever been in the snow. Thank you for such wonderful memories with you and the family, and please, lets keep in touch. Love ya!!

Words cannot say what is in our hearts for you and your family. We have known you and Dick for most of our lives. I met Dick out at the airport in Battle Creek Mi. when we both were first getting into flying. I remember the first time I met you on a blind date with Lola we later got you and Dick together on a blind date also. What a great life we have had and we are so glad lucky to had you and Dick for friends for more that 50 yrs. I could go on for ever about my great times with Dick and I sure enjoyed all those emails and talks that we have had almost every Sat. for the last 10 yrs. Me and Dick were just talking last week about some of the great times we had flying for K H S service flying freight all over. The loss of Dick has been on my mind constantly since I herd about it. He will be a very big loss in our lives. But I am looking forward flying with him up there in the big sky again someday

Nedra, Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to you, and your family in this time of loss. It is indeed a big empty spot that Dick leaves in all our lives. I knew Dick in the Marshall, MI, high school band and orchestra and, later, he helped me immensely in becoming a pilot. He was a true friend and mentor over the years. After E-mail got started, he was a person that I always thought of as; "Wait till I tell Dick about this!" just to get his feed-in on the situation. He usually could bluntly sum things up in very few words...usually rather crudely, but right on target. There was a time back when we were both single, we were working on one of our airplanes at night in Battle Creek, in a freezing hangar, I said, "What are we doing here? We're spending all our spare time on airplanes! We don't even know any women!" We both agreed that somehow our lives seemed a bit off track. Shortly after that, you, Nedra, appeared on the scene and things changed for the better for Dick. I remember, I thought I'd be the Best Man at your wedding, but you, in your wisdom deemed that I was too short, and that Lowell Childs (tall handsome guy) would look better up there in the ceremony. I didn't care, I was just as happy being an usher. I loved you both, including Lowell. I remember at Dick's bachelor party we were all smoking cigars and I accidently burned a scar into the side of Dick's face. Just a few days before the wedding. That was embarassing. We'd had a bit to drink. Sorry! God ...the stories could go on almost forever. Dick, here's to you. Nedra, we are here for you. just ask. Ike & Lori Eishen.

Dear Nedra & Family, We are so sad to hear about Dick. Will miss him on email and his Saturday phone calls. Talked to a classmate from Marshall and she said she remembered him carrying that big Tuba and playing it too in the high school band. I always felt I could ask him questions about flying and get the answers. Now what do I do? Give all the family and Scotch, too, a hug for us. Hope we can still keep in touch. Sincere sympathy and love from Martha & Carl Laupp, Ceresco,MI

Our condolences to you Nedra, and all of your family. Janice and I enjoyed Dick's association and friendship over many years. Janice worked with Dick during his time in Alaska when he and Jim Braham were putting together a Part 135 Operation along with KGZ.
I will never forget the times I spent with Captain Lord in the cockpit of a C-46, AW-650, and L-188. He was one of finest pilot instructors and mentors I had ever flown with. I credit much of my career in Aviation on things that Dick taught me. Probably one of the most important was always analysis the situation (be it in life or in an aircraft).
Our last get-to-gether was at The Farm House restaurant for lunch I only regret it was our last.
Thank You Dick for the memories. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this period of celebration of Dicks life. Lee & Janice Svoboda (Casa Grande, Arizona & Boise, Idaho)

In my early days at American International Airways, 1992 or so, I was saved by "The LORD" more than once as some of the pilots would affectionately say. Dick gave me my initial IOE check ride on the diesel 8 for example....My first big jet...a day later, thanks to Captain Dick Lord, I flew my very first flight as a now qualified First Officer on the DC 8....I was rather green back then, with much to still learn.... but Dick thought and knew I could do the job. He signed me off, telling me I now had the keys to the big jet and to not hurt myself, with a big laugh!........... for that, I will be eternally gratefully and in his debt.
I also remember Captain Dick shutting down the simulator, and pulling me out of a rather dismal simulator check ride in later years. He gave me a good talking to that day...one I will never forget. My brother had just passed away and my head was not on the game....Dick knew of my brother's recent passing only a few days before....He told me he understood, but that there was important work to do and to keep myself together for one more hour and fly the darned thing for my brother and as if my life depended on it.......I said yes Sir....he said ...I work for a living, so don't call me sir. He told me many other things as well that day all of which got my head on straight and I will remember for the rest of my life. We went back into the simulator, where I flew one of my best check rides. Captain Lord could have just failed me right there and then... like most Check Airman at Kalitta would have done back then ....but Captain Lord took that extra time with me...and got me thru. I was surely "saved by the Lord" that day...what a nice man I knew him to be...one of the few Captains I ever knew, that no one had anything bad to say about......I will miss him dearly and will always be in his debt.
Safe journey Captain Lord on your last flight and may you be first for the airport at you final destination
