Virginia Pryor Obituary

Virginia C. Newby Pryor Battle Creek Virginia C. Newby Pryor, 73, of Battle Creek died at The Oakes at NorthPointe Woods, with her family at her side on Tuesday, October 13, 2009. She was born in Knoxville, TN to Sherrill M. and Bessie (Hensley) Manis on October 20, 1935. Virginia was raised in Battle Creek, where she graduated from Battle Creek Central High School. Virginia was preceded in death by her first husband, Archie L. Newby in 1967 and her second husband, Early Pryor in 2001; by her daughter, Brenda Harrington in 2006; two granddaughters, Rhonda Newby in 1988 and Danielle Newby in 1989; her grandson, Timothy Hackett in 1971; and a brother, Jerry Heath. Surviving are two sons, Lonnie (Joy) Newby and Ronnie (Nancy) Newby, both of Battle Creek; a daughter, Sandra Newby of Battle Creek; stepchildren, Michael (Glenda) Pryor, Esther (Larry) Frew, and Racahel (Roger) Glaysbrook; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Kathryn Rogers; and a brother, Orville Lynn Heath. Virginia was devoted to her family and adored her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6:00 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 6:00-8:00 p.m. Services to celebrate Virginia's life will be officiated by Pastor Mike Brown 12:00 Noon Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. Memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com
