Patricia Shemelia Obituary

Patricia Sue "Pattie" Shemelia Battle Creek Patricia Sue "Pattie" Shemelia, age 43, of Battle Creek, died unexpectedly while attending a wedding in Providence, RI, on Friday, October 9, 2009. Pattie was born on January 9, 1966 in Battle Creek and was the daughter of Leonard and Edith (Heacock) Gray. She was a 1984 graduate of Pennfield High School and was active with its softball, volleyball and track teams. Pattie was a restaurant manager for United States Air Force clubs in Germany, Texas, Arkansas and Arizona and retired from the Applebee's of Battle Creek as its manager in 2006, due to medical reasons. She was an avid ceramic doll collector and previously enjoyed bowling on several leagues. On December 2, 1984, in Wichita, KS, Pattie was united in marriage to Steven N. "Steve" Shemelia (originally of Troy, NY) and he survives. Also surviving are her two sons, Joshua Ryan and Jacob Paul Shemelia; a granddaughter, Ella; her mother, Edith Gray of Battle Creek; her brother, Randy L. Gray of Battle Creek; her sister, Cynthia K. (Victor) Owen of Columbia, SC; several nieces and nephews and her faithful and ever-present companions, Pimpen and Brutus, the dogs. Pattie was preceded in death by her father, Leonard on June 17, 2009 and her brother, Michael L. in June of 1986. A private, family service has been held and as per her wishes, cremation has taken place. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Pattie's honor may be made to the Humane Society of Calhoun County, 2500 Watkins Road, Battle Creek, MI, 49015.
