Violet E. Hazen

Violet E. Hazen Battle Creek Violet E. Hazen, 78, of Battle Creek died at Battle Creek Health System on Friday, October 23, 2009. She was born in Hastings, MI to Loyal and Belva (Briggs) Edger on December 29, 1930. She was raised in Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School. Violet was employed as a dietician at the Calhoun County Technology Center. Violet married LaVerne C. Hazen in Hastings on April 24, 1948. She was preceded in death by her husband, LaVerne, on January 23, 1979; her parents; two sons-in-law, Tom White and Fred Probst; a daughter-in-law, Glenna Hazen and Violet's second husband, Charles W. "Blackie" Davis, whom she married in 1981. Surviving are two daughters, Sandra E. Probst of Winter Haven, FL and Patricia L. White of Battle Creek; two sons, Roy L. (Sue) Hazen of Keithville, LA and Gary L. (Wanda) Hazen of Battle Creek; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Genieve Bennett and Mary Lou Powell, both of Dowling. Violet enjoyed oil painting, scrap booking, gardening and was an organizer. She loved her family and they were always her first priority. At the request of the family, friends may call after 2:00 p.m. Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 p.m. Monday. Funeral services to celebrate Violet's life will be held at Calvary Baptist Church 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 27, 2009. Interment will follow at Ellis Cemetery.
