Charles Burgett Obituary

Charles Victor Burgett Battle Creek Charles Victor Burgett, 95, of Battle Creek died at Heartland Health Center, with his family at his side, early Saturday, October 24, 2009. He was born in Battle Creek to Charles and Bessie (Partello) Burgett on August 27, 1914. Charles grew up in Battle Creek and was a 1934 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. In 1973, he retired from the packing room at Kraft / Post Division after 37½years. Charles married Dorothy O. Foss in Bryant, OH in 1939. He was preceded in death by Dorothy, his wife of 66 years, and a sister, Amy Stockham. Surviving are two sons, Lee W. Burgett of Battle Creek and Lynn V. (Sue) Burgett of Marshall; two daughters, Elaine J. (Enlow) Hargus and Eileen (Joy) Sheler, both of Battle Creek; 12 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Charles was a member of the Post 25 Year Club, Dolls & Dudes Square Dance Club and the Rose Society where he received many ribbons. He was an avid gardener, with a variety of over 60 plants. He and Dorothy traveled together to 37 countries and they loved their 24 winters in Hawaii together. At the request of the family, friends may call after 6 pm Monday at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home where they will be received from 6-8 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate Charles' life will be officiated by Pastor James Roberts at the funeral home Tuesday, October 27, 2009 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Hicks Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com

HE WAS A GREAT MAN WHO TRUELY LOVED HIS FAMILY. HE ENJOYED A FULL LIFE AND WAS ABLE TO TRAVEL THE WORLD. HE WILL BE MISSED BY ALL WHO KNEW HIM.
