Lorna J. Katz

Lorna J. Katz Battle Creek Lorna Jean Katz, 77 of Battle Creek passed away Friday October 23, 2009 at home. She was born on December 6, 1931 in Battle Creek to LaVon G. and Vivian (Spriggs) Sawyer. Lorna graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1951. She married Richard N. Katz in 1951, they divorced in 1969. Lorna was a hard worker, she retired in 1989 from Interbake Foods, then worked for W.J Schroer Company until the present. Lorna is survived by a son, Steven P. (Jackie S.) Katz, of Battle Creek; a daughter, Deborah L. Katz, of Battle Creek; 4 grandchildren, Jeffrey S. (Sherri) Katz, of Oregon, Melissa M. (Mark) Ackley, of Battle Creek, Heather D. Katz, of Battle Creek and Stephanie J. (Carl) Eadie, of Cedar Springs, MI; 8 great-grandchildren; a brother, Carroll B. (Ruth) Sawyer, of Battle Creek; a daughter of the heart, Tracy (Mike) Simmons, of Chicago; dearest friends, Shirley Ashley and Mary Ross. She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Earl Sawyer. Lorna formerly attended Dexter Lake Church of God and Family Altar Chapel. She was an avid NASCAR fan, loved country and gospel music, and enjoyed shopping. Lorna loved spending time with her family and her six cats. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Mike Sparks officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.
