Donna Kiessling Obituary

Donna L. Kiessling Ceresco Donna L. Kiessling, age 85, of Ceresco, died on Wednesday night, October 28, 2009 at Tendercare of Marshall. Donna was born on February 2, 1924 in Battle Creek to Albert Guy and Villa L. (Cronk) Hamilton. She grew up in Battle Creek and graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1942. On December 12, 1943 Donna was married to Paul W. Kiessling. The couple have lived in Ceresco for the majority of their married life together. Donna was a Postal Clerk at the Ceresco Post Office for 20 years retiring in 1986. After she and Paul retired they took a road trip to the western United States. They also visited Germany. Donna and Paul enjoyed many trips to their cabin in northern Michigan. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School for 30 years. She also held numerous offices in the Zion Women's Association. Donna was a member of the Merry Mixer's Extension Club and was a 4-H leader for many years. She was a Cub Scout Den Mother. Donna was a familiar sight helping the Marshall Township Fire Department (where Paul was a firefighter and later Chief) at fire calls. If the weather was cold or the night was long Donna was seen going man to man pouring cups of coffee and helping furnish food . Donna was a wonderful cook. Surviving are her husband, Paul; daughter, Jeannette (David) Glen of Ceresco; 2 sons, David (Carol) Kiessling of Battle Creek and Robert (Marjorie) Kiessling of Marshall; 7 grandchildren, Tad Kiessling, Troy Kiessling, Dan Glen, Kelly Blaskie, Tammy Crocker, Jennifer Kiessling, and Tina Green; 12 great-grandchildren, Ty Blaskie, Kodie Kiessling, Krista Kiessling, Kevin Green, Ryan Green, Lindzy Glen, Jessica Glen, Luke Glen, Kaitlyn Kiessling, Kara Kiessling, Benjamin Crocker and Eryn Crocker; a sister, Francis Smith of Battle Creek; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister Marion Swartz and a brother Dale Hamilton. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 Old 27 North, Sunday 1 p.m.-8 p.m. with family present to greet friends 1 p.m.-3 p.m. and 5 p.m.-7 p.m. Funeral services to celebrate her life will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church with Rev. Roger James officiating. Interment to follow in Ceresco Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Zion Lutheran Church or Marshall Township Fire Department. Assistance with memorials available at Kempf's.
