Elmer Farrington Obituary

Elmer E. Farrington Battle Creek Elmer E. Farrington, age 84, of Battle Creek, passed away peacefully at his daughter's home on Thursday, October 29, 2009 surrounded by his family. Elmer was born on October 6, 1925 in Birmingham, Alabama, the son of Grady and Hilda (Bosher) Farrington. He had been a lifelong area resident graduating from Lakeview High School. Elmer was a veteran serving in the U.S. Coast Guard during WWII on the USS Arthur Middleton and with the South and Central Pacific amphibious forces. He married the former Alice J. Nuding on December 3, 1960; she preceded him in death in 2007. He was a member of the Plumbers and Fitters Local #333 from which he retired. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are children, Tom (Sally) Farrington of Battle Creek, Donald Farrington of Kalamazoo, Julie (Dennis) Peterson of Grand Rapids, Sam (Melanie) Farrington of Vicksburg, Tracee (John) Osborne of Battle Creek and Teresa Farrington of East Leroy; step-children, Edward (Sue) Plummer of Battle Creek, Thomas (Kim) Plummer of the Upper Peninsula and Sidney Plummer of Dowagiac; 14 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren; brothers, Douglas (Gerri) Farrington of Battle Creek, Leo (Betty) Farrington of Athens and Jack (Kathy) Farrington of Battle Creek; sister, Barbara Crystal of North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Lee Farrington. In accordance with his wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 14, 2009, at 12152 Sonoma Road. A graveside service with full military honors will be held at Fort Custer National Cemetery at a later date. Memorial contributions may be directed to Borgess V.N.A. Hospice Services, 348 N. Burdick Street, Kalamazoo, MI 49007. Arrangements by the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home.

Doug, Elaine and Buddy,
Sorry to read that Elmer has passed away. Although I didn't know him well, Denny spoke of him and enjoyed working for and spending time with him. My condolences to the entire Farrington family. May he rest in peace.
