Joyce Powers Obituary

Joyce Joan Powers Battle Creek Joyce Joan Powers, 76, of Battle Creek went to be with the Lord after losing her battle with cancer on Saturday, November 7, 2009. She was born in Battle Creek on December 19, 1932 the daughter of Forrest and Ethel (Edmonds) Powers and graduated from Lakeview High School in 1951. Joyce was employed for many years as a claims examiner for Federal Home Life Insurance Company, attaining the office of Chief Claims Adjuster prior to the Company's move to Florida! Recently she worked for the State of Michigan at the Secretary of State's office. She enjoyed working there and helping the customers that came there as much as she could. Helping others was truly a passion of hers. Joyce was a very talented artist enjoying arts and crafts of all kinds, family, playing golf, gardening and giving a helping hand to nieces and nephews. She was a member of the St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church and the Marywood Country Club. Joyce is survived by a sister, Marjorie M. (Harold) Yother, brothers, Richard F. (Helen) Powers, Thomas J. (Dianne) Powers, Phillip G. (Barbara) Powers, and several nieces & nephews and great nieces & nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Forrest Arthur (Jackie) Powers, Forrest Asil Powers and a niece, Teresa L. Wiley. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 5:00 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 10, 2009 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Joyce's life will be held 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at the funeral home. Entombment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church or the Cancer Care Center at Battle Creek Health Systems. Joyce was a great person who always had a smile on her face, a little laugh, full of energy and kind words for everyone. She will be greatly missed by many people. The memories of Joyce will never be forgotten. We send our condolences to the family in time of loss.

My thoughts and prayers offered for Joyce and her beloved family. She was our "energizer bunny" at the office as well as in life. I loved her for her
willingness to help me and her co-workers while serving the public at the Sec. of State office.She died on my birthday and will be remembered as long as I live.
