John Dennis Obituary

John J. Dennis Birmingham, AL John J. Dennis, age 70, died Monday, October 26, 2009, in Birmingham, AL. He was born October 5, 1939, in Battle Creek, Michigan, the son of Leo and Mary (Sypher) Dennis, who preceded him in death. John was a graduate of Lakeview High School and received degrees from University of Michigan Real Estate Institute and the Michigan Association of Realtors. In his lifetime John worked for Kellogg's, was a realtor with Little Red Barn Real Estate and a broker and co-owner of Dennis-Rhulig and Associates Realtors. He was also an active member of the Battle Creek Optimist Club and Battle Creek Board of Realtors. After his retirement from Sears in 2002, John made his home in Ashville, AL. and was a Board member for the Pinedale Owners Association. In his free time John was an avid hunter and fisherman, enjoyed playing guitar and banjo, remodeling his home and most of all spending time with his family and friends. Surviving are his wife Sharon (Jettner) Dennis; son John "Pat" (Donna) Dennis of Springville, AL; daughter Lori (Steve) Wesner of Bellevue, MI; grandchildren Amanda (Ken) Staunton, Lansing, MI; Kalyn Gable, Kaneohe, HI; Tyler and Matthew Dennis of Springville, AL and sisters Martha (Frank) Vance, Lorida, FL and Vera Sabin, Battle Creek, MI. John was preceded in death by his sisters Mary Evens of St. Paul, MN and Betty Bird of Lake City, FL and brother Leo (Jim) Dennis of Venice, FL. A memorial service will be held in Battle Creek, MI at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Cancer Society.
