M. Smith Obituary

M. Janet Smith Battle Creek M. Janet Smith, 84, died Sunday, November 29, 2009. Janet was born August 12, 1925 to George and Cathrine (Wall) Goble in Bellevue. Janet was a 1944 St. Phillip Catholic Central High School graduate. She went on to spend her working years as a long distance telephone operator for Michigan Bell Telephone. She especially enjoyed making quilts. Janet is survived by her three daughters, Jackie (Don) Funkhauser, Jill Weeks, and Becky (Bob) Donbavand; brother, Robert "Buck" Goble; sisters, Jackie (Bruce) Baker and Joann (Don) Preston; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Janet was preceded in death by her parents; three husbands, Jack Needaham, Lyle Weeks, and Bill Smith; her son, Joseph Needaham; two grandchildren, Richard Dillon and Carl Von Berg; brother, Barney Goble; and sister, Jean Stevens. A Funeral Liturgy to celebrate Janet's life will be held 2:30 p.m., Friday, December 4, 2009 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Visitation will be one hour prior. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in honor of Janet are asked to consider the Calhoun County Humane Society.
