Christine Lorencen Obituary

Christine M. "Chris" Lorencen Battle Creek Christine M. "Chris" Lorencen, 43, of Battle Creek joined her father and went to be with her Lord and Saviour on Tuesday, December 8, 2009. She was born in Battle Creek on February 14, 1966 the daughter of William Lee and Jane Irene (Handy) Skillman. Chris worked for the past 10 years at Kellogg Community College. Chris married Scott D. Lorencen in Battle Creek on October 10, 1992; he survives. She is also survived by her 3 wonderful children, Nick, Sarah and Kelli; her mother, Jane Skillman; a sister, Laura (Gary) Andrews of Battle Creek; 2 brothers, Jonathan (Mary) Skillman of Portage and Douglas (Susan) Skillman of Battle Creek. Chris is further survived by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and good friends and church family. She was preceded in death by her father; grandparents; 3 aunts; 2 uncles; and her father-in-law. Chris was an active and faithful member of Faith Baptist Church, Battle Creek. She was a faithful promoter and volunteer at the Battle Creek Christian School and formed many wonderful friendships as a member of Cereal City BNI where she served in many leadership roles. Chris had a great love for people which helped in her success as a demonstrator/salesperson for Stampin Up, EcoQuest International and Lia Sophia Jewelry. Chris was always active in her children's lives and was a fixture at their school, church and sporting events. She enjoyed reading, staying in touch with her friends and family via computer and spending time with those she loved. At the request of the family, they will receive friends 2:00 4:00 and 6:00 8:00 p.m., Friday, December 11, 2009 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. Funeral services to celebrate Chris's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 12, 2009 at the Faith Baptist Church 13840 S. Helmer Road, Battle Creek with Pastor Jim Augustine, officiating. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Battle Creek Christian School or the charity of one's choice would be appreciated.
