John Thompson Obituary

John Thompson III John Thompson III, died, December 8, 2009 at Oaklawn Hospital, Marshall, MI. Born May 1, 1930 in Milan, MI, son of the late John Thomas & Beatrice Margaret (Saffell) Thompson II. He was a 1948 graduate of Belleville High School. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Marines during the Korean Conflict. John was a huge Civil War enthusiast, his family teased that he had more Civil War books than the library. He was a member of the Executive Club in Marshall, MI and was a former member of the Belleville Planning Commission Committee for several years. He attended Christ Lutheran Church, Marshall, MI. Survived by his wife, Geneva Lee (Hightower) Thompson, 4 children, John (Janet) Thompson of Dexter, MI, Mary (James) Kelly of Davison, MI, Betty (Richard) Schroeder of MN, Beth (Michael) Kummeth of Mishawaka, IN, 5 step-sons; John (Darlene) Reed of Wayne, MI, Jim (Rhonda) Reed, Joe Reed, & Jerry Reed all of Belleville, MI, also Jack (Lisa) Reed of Marshall, MI, 7 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren and 5 step-great-grandchildren. Preceded by daughter, Cheryl Thompson, also his first wife, Suzanne (Van Sickle) Thompson. Funeral at 1 p.m., December 12, 2009 at Brown Funeral Home, Belleville. Interment at Hillside Cemetery. Memorial Services will be Dec.13, 2009 at 2:30 PM at Christ Lutheran Church, 440 W. Drive North, Marshall, MI. Memorials to the Alzheimer's Association. www.davidcbrownfh.com.
