Frank Svekric Obituary

Frank J. Svekric Battle Creek Frank J. Svekric, 91, of Battle Creek, died Sunday, January, 3, 2010 at Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence. He was born May 7, 1918 in Dunbar, Pennsylvania, the son of John and Agnes (Summarine) Svekric and was raised in Cleveland, Ohio. He earned his bachelors degree in mechanical engineering from Washington State University. He received a degree in Metallurgy from Cleveland State University. He served his country from 1941-1946 as a Lieutenant in the Army Corps of Engineers. Frank came to Battle Creek in 1963 and joined Clark Equipment as a staff engineer. He retired from Clark in 1982. He continued his education and achieved a Certified Value Specialist Degree, after his retirement. Frank was deeply involved in the community and served with the United Way Campaign, was President of Family and Children's Services, President of Clark Management Club, Divisional Board Member of Leila Hospital, Stage Manager of Leila Follies, Member of Host Lions Club and Lakeview Lions Club serving as their President, fund raising chairman and White Cane Sale, Board Member for Welcome Home for the Blind, Commander of the American Legion Post #54, chaired the planting of flags on Veterans graves at Oak Hill and Olivet Cemeteries for Memorial Day, ushered at St. Joseph Church for over 25 years. Frank is remembered by his wife of 53 years, Patricia, and son and daughter-in-law, Mark Svekric and Donna Reynolds, of Grand Rapids, MI and daughter, Beth Forseth, and son-in-law, Brian Forseth of Jordan, Minnesota. Frank has three grandchildren; Tully Svekric, of Ann Arbor, MI, Rory Svekric, of Kalamazoo, MI and Thomas Forseth of Jordan, MN. Frank had five brothers and sisters who have preceded him in death. At the request of the family, friends may call Wednesday after 2:00 p.m. at Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and a Rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m. Mass of the Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will be at Ft. Custer National Cemetery with full military honors. Memorials can be made to Lifespan Good Samaritan Hospice Residence or Battle Creek Hospital System Auxiliary.
