Orlo J. Baas

Orlo J. Baas Battle Creek Orlo J. Baas, 81, of Battle Creek, died December 31, 2009. Orlo was born February 17, 1928 in Battle Creek to John and Genevieve (Merrit) Baas. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School and went on to own and operate Regency Beauty Supply. Orlo was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, where he was a former elder, deacon and usher. He was a volunteer at the First Presbyterian Church Retreat Center and former chairman of the Retreat Site Committee. He was a member of the XYZ Club and the Battle Creek Kiwanis. He enjoyed golfing in his free time. Orlo married Norma Carl on August 8, 2003, who survives. Also surviving are a son, Michael L. Baas; four grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one sister, Wilma J. Woollard; and several nieces and nephews. Orlo was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Virginia Baas; second wife, Rosemary Baas; and two sisters, Ethel Townsend and Elsie Potter. A memorial service to celebrate Orlo's life will be held 11:00 a.m., Thursday, January 7, 2010 at the First Presbyterian Church of Battle Creek, 111 Capital Ave. NE, Battle Creek. Interment will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. A Memorial visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home.
