Ruby B. Winters

Ruby B. Winters Battle Creek Ruby B. (Smith) Winters, 94, of Battle Creek, MI, passed away peacefully at the Battle Creek Health System on Monday, January 4, 2010. She was born January 25, 1915 in Constantine, MI the daughter of Carl Smith and Lilas (Skelton) Smith. Ruby started working at the former Percy Jones Army Hospital and continued working at the federal center retiring in 1977 as the Chief of contracting and procurement for the U S Army 6th Corps, working there for 35 years. Ruby had married Harold B. Winters on March 13, 1942 at the Baptist Church in Kalamazoo, MI. Her husband, Harold passed away December 6, 2003. Ruby is survived by two sons, Donald W. Winters of Oceanside, CA, and Jack M. and Blanche Winters of Battle Creek; six grandchildren: Robert and Melissa Guiterrez, Ronald and Diane Guiterrez, Renae Guiterrez, William and Stacy Winters of Battle Creek, Heather and Jay Ottinger of Battle Creek, Kristi Wilcox of Battle Creek; 13 great grandchildren; brother, Ken Parker of Battle Creek; nephew, Dr. Thomas M. and Barbara Ball of Jackson, MI; and several other nieces and nephews She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold B. Winters; her father, Carl Smith; her mother, Lilas Parker; her step father: Donald Parker; and her sister: Margaret Ball (1986). Ruby received her education from and graduated 1932 from Constantine High School. Ruby has lived in Battle Creek since 1942. She has been a faithful member of the Urbandale Baptist Church. Enjoyed word search, reading, traveled widely, watching the Detroit Tigers. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service after 9:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2010 where the family will be present Monday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. Funeral services commemorating the life of Ruby B. Winters will take place in the Bachman Funeral Chapel at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, with Rev. Dr. Thomas M. Ball of Spring Arbor Free Methodist Church and Pastor Ronald Anderson of Urbandale Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at the Fort Custer National Cemetery.
