Grace (Hamilton) Patterson Union City Grace (Hamilton) Patterson, age 72 0f Union City and Mt. Morris, MI, passed away Thursday, January 7, 2010 at Genesy's Home and Hospice Care in Goodrich, MI. Grace was born on February 14, 1937 in Teaberry, Kentucky to Thomas and Elizabeth (Newson) Hamilton. Grace started working at age sixteen as a nurse's aid. She married Joe G. May when she was seventeen and they had three children; Ricky May, Charlotte (May) Essex and Debbie (May) Harris. The family moved from Kentucky to Michigan in 1959. Grace married Chuck Houser in 1961 and they had one child Wesley Houser. Then in 1986 she married Richard Patterson. Grace really enjoyed traveling, crafts, gardening and spending time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She loved volunteering and she was a member of the Athens Ladies Auxiliary post 5319 and the Coldwater American Legion post No. 52. Grace was a member of the Grace Freewill Baptist Church in Albion, MI. Grace is survived by her children, sixteen grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren; two sisters Eden Bryant of Teaberry, KY and Victoria Wolfe of Cleveland, TN; many special nieces and nephews; and a special caregiver for the last five months Cheryl Kintigh. Visitation will be Tuesday, January 12, 2010 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and on Wednesday, January 13th from noon to 1:00 p.m. at the Spencer Family Funeral Home in Athens. Funeral Services to follow at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Earl Martin officiating. A special service will be conducted by the Athens Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 5319. Burial West Girard Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to gather at 4:30 p.m. for food and fellowship at the Athens V.F.W. Post 5319. Memorials in Grace's honor may be made to the Athens Ladies Auxiliary Post No. 5319. Arrangements by Spencer Family Funeral Home, Athens.
