Octavia L. Stewart

Octavia L. Stewart Battle Creek Octavia L. Stewart, 80, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at her home. She was born August 4, 1929 in Grand Junction, TN the daughter of Alfred and Mamie (Toler) Smith. She married Charles Dobbins Stewart on November 4, 1961 in Battle Creek and he preceded her in death on December 5, 1992. Octavia and her husband, Charles were foster parents for over 35 years and they were recognized as Foster Parents of the Year. She liked to play board games, sewing, gardening and listening to blue's music. Octavia loved to do things for others, especially her family. She was a member of the Jehovah's Witnesses Central Congregation. She is survived by her children, James (Linda) A. Smith of Battle Creek, Daniel Stewart of Battle Creek, Fredrick (Anthonetta) Stewart of Aurora, CO; brothers and sisters, Marie Jones of Battle Creek, Drucilla Conley of TN, Willie Hard of TN and Willie P. Smith of Detroit; 17 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, daughter: Barbara Pearl Ford, two sons: Charles Stewart, Jr. and Tyrone Stewart; two grandsons, Andrew Figgures III and Robert Dewayne Smith and 8 brothers and sisters. A memorial service will be held at the Jehovah's Witnesses Kingdom Hall at 5561 East Morgan Road at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2010. A reception will follow at the Kellogg Credit Union, 41 Second Street, Battle Creek. At the request of her family, cremation has taken place.
