George Deno Obituary

George J. Deno Battle Creek George J. Deno, 87, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010 at Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo. He was born June 11, 1922 in Casnovia, MI the son of Frank and Mary (Williaume) Deno. George was an independent owner/operator truck driver and worked on the Grand Truck Railroad for 11 years prior. Flying airplanes was the love of his life. George was a very talented wood worker, machinist and fabricator who built and restored antique aircraft and built his last house at the age of 75. He ran a community BMX bike shop from his basement. He was affectionately known as "Pa" and or "Gramps" by everyone and he really enjoyed his family. He loved his dog, Rusty. He was a WWII veteran who served in the Merchant Marines. Surviving are his children, Gary (Wondrella) Deno of Battle Creek, Susie Hendon of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Beth (Allan) Hendon-Zabriskie, Brian (DeAnn) Deno, Scott (Stacy) Hendon, Doug Deno, Rick Deno; great grandchildren, Thomas, Danielle, Amber, Heather, Crystal, Raechel, Justin; brother, Paul (Barbara) Deno and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Raymond "Ozzie" Deno and his sister, Blanche Greene. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Thursday from 5 - 7 p.m. Memorial services will be held Friday, 3:00 p.m. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service with Pastor Steven S. Olmstead officiating. Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to D.A.V. or the charity of one's choice.
