Constance Schragg Obituary

Constance E. Schragg Newton Township Constance E. Schragg, age 88, died Wednesday January 13, 2010 at Tendercare of Marshall. Mrs. Schragg was born March 21, 1921 in Battle Creek at Nichols Hospital to Glen and Caroline (Swift) Griffin. She attended Battle Creek schools until moving to Dayton,Ohio with her family as a teenager. She returned to the family farm in Newton Township in 1940. She was married to Wayne D. Schragg on July 12, 1941 in Bryan, Ohio. The couple lived in Newton Township on the family farm all of their lives. Wayne preceded her in death Dec. 18, 2006. Mrs. Schragg worked for Dr. and Mrs. Franklin Graubner in Marshall as a nanny.when she returned from Ohio. During WWII she worked at Kellogg Company and in the 1960's at the former Shopper's Fair. She helped with the family farm operation also. She loved camping with her husband and was a member of the Travel Trailer Of America Club. Mrs. Schragg enjoyed attending yearly picnics with the Post 25 Year Club with her husband. The couple enjoyed winters in South Texas. Mrs. Schragg crocheted and knitted doll clothing and blankets. She was a member of her neighborhood Extension in the past and used to work their Art and Craft Booth at the Calhoun County Fair. She helped son Mike with the Marshall Postal Museum during tours and the annual Home Tour where she manned the Stamp Room. Surviving are her son and daughter-in-law Michael W. and Loretta Schragg of Ceresco; 3 grandchildren Beth Ann (Tim) Martin of Battle Creek, Lori M. (Doug) Hueckel of Glen Carbon,IL and John D. (Heather) Schragg of Ceresco; and 8 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Lauren Martin, Owen, Drake and Sophia Hueckel, and Sam and Jake Schragg. She was preceded in death also by a son Steven D. Schragg, her parents and sisters Frankie Hetz and Leslie Adams. Friends may call at Craig K. Kempf Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 723 Old 27 North, Marshall on Friday 9a.m.-9p.m. where family will be present 2p.m.-4p.m. and 6p.m.-8p.m.. Services will be held at the funeral home on Saturday, January 16, at 11a.m. with Rev. James Codde officiating. A luncheon will follow the service in the funeral home reception hall and then committal will take place at Newton Cemtery. Memorials may be directed to the Marshall Postal Museum with assistance available at Kempf Funeral Home.
