Arthur Black Obituary

Arthur "Art" J. Black Burlington Arthur "Art" J. Black, 77, of Burlington died Wednesday January 13, 2010 at Battle Creek Health System. He was born on October 18, 1932 in Battle Creek to Bruce and Myrtle (Buys) Black. Art served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Post Cereals for 38 years, retiring in 1987. Art married Joyce A. McConnell on December 31, 1982 in Union City. He is survived by his wife, Joyce; children, Stuart J. (Debra) Black, of Bellevue, Dale A. (Lou) Black of Burlington, Kelly D. Black of Battle Creek and Susan M. Otis of Battle Creek; step-children, Charles F. (Janet) Day of Marshall, Judith (Mark) DePuy of Battle Creek, Cathy Weller of Burlington, and Karen Strance of Battle Creek; 30 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; sisters, LaMoine (John) Cairns and Carol (Kaus) Gruetzner. Art was preceded in death by his parents, two grandchildren, and a sister. Art was a member of Veterans Motor Car Club of America Battle Creek Chapter, President of A.A.H.A., and former commander of V.F.W. Post # 5319 in Athens. He enjoyed bowling, playing pool, and square dancing. Family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.and 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home where services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday January 18, 2010. Interment will follow at Ft. Custer National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to V.F.W. Post #5319 in Athens or charity of one's choice.
