Gordon Squires Obituary

Gordon R. Squires Battle Creek Gordon R. Squires, 84, of Battle Creek passed away Wednesday, January 13, 2010 at his home. He was born August 9, 1925 in Niles, MI the son of Lewis Harold and Clittie Gail (Norman) Squires. He married Adeline Ann Case on June 11, 1947 in Battle Creek and she preceded him in death on November 14, 1997. Gordon served in the Army during World War II and he received a Purple Heart. After the war, Gordon worked for General Motors in Lansing for 20 years. He also had a 7-Up route and drove delivery truck for many years. He loved wood working, bowling, fishing and playing cards with his friends. Gordon especially treasured every minute he spent with his special friend, Jack Mudd, whether it was fishing, playing cards or just talking. He was a very honest man and hard worker that enjoyed working. For those who knew Gordon, if invited for coffee or breakfast, he would get there before you were even up. Surviving are his children, Monica K. Potter of Battle Creek, Peggy (William) Lockwood of Battle Creek, Ross Squires of Battle Creek, Douglas Squires of Battle Creek; 8 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Leota Wood; and his very special friend of 52 years, Jack Mudd. He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Cynda Sue Osborn and granddaughter, Tiffany Wood. Visitation will be held at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service on Monday from 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 p.m. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, 1:00 p.m. at Bachman Hebble Funeral Service. Burial will be in Fort Custer National Cemetery. Memorial tributes may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
