Betty Smyth Obituary

Betty Joan Smyth Leroy Township Betty Joan Smyth, 80, went to be with the Lord January 20, 2010, at Marshall Nursing and Rehabilitation Community. Betty was born November 3, 1929, in Battle Creek, the daughter of S. Vernon and Mary (Fravel) Blowers. She was one of nine children. She married the love of her life, James Smyth in December of 1973 and they spent 36 years together. She was previously married to Irving Crane in which she had her three daughters. That marriage ended in divorce. She retired from the Kellogg Company after 35 years of service. She loved and enjoyed her family. She enjoyed dancing (also clogging) and was an avid piano and organ player. She is survived by her husband, James Smyth; daughters, Connie (Richard) Beeman and Deborah (John) Carr of Battle Creek; two stepdaughters, Kathy Smyth and Judy (Rob) Beam of Battle Creek; grandchildren, Paul (Amy) Beeman of Kasson, Minnesota, Jason Carr of Ann Arbor, Jerry (Joni) Carr, Andrea (Scott) Frommert, James Carr and Jared Beeman all of Battle Creek; step-grandchildren, Timothy Baird, Adam, Brian (Jennifer) Beam of Battle Creek, Kevin (Silke) Beam of Germany and Julie Carr; great grandchildren, Colin, Conor, Kristi and Jeremy Frommert, Jillian, Jaylee and Jenna Carr, Justin and Philipp Beam; sisters, Annabel Thorpe of Battle Creek, Dorothy Wright and Judith Blowers of Climax; a brother, Jerry Blowers of Denham Springs, Louisiana; many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; infant daughter, Vickie Crane; infant grandson, Jay Carr; two brothers and two sisters. Visitation will be held Sunday from 2 to 4:00 p.m. and 6 to 8:00 p.m. at the Richard A. Henry Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 25, 2010, at the funeral home with The Rev. Peggy Baker of Outland Church officiating. Interment will be at Beckley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family request memorials to be directed to In- House Hospice, 5360 Holiday Terrace Suite 24A, Kalamazoo, MI 49009, the Alzheimer's Foundation of Michigan or Marshall Nursing and Rehabilitation Community with attention to resident activities.
