Phyllis J. Jacobs

Phyllis J. Jacobs Battle Creek Phyllis J. Jacobs, 89, of Battle Creek, died Saturday, January 23, 2010. Phyllis was born February 5, 1920 in Quincy, the daughter of Olen and Edna (Menges) Ringler and graduated Salutatorian of Bristol High School, Bristol, Ind. in 1938. She was a homemaker and loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On January 10, 1940, Phyllis J. Ringler was united in marriage to Astor C. Jacobs in Defiance, Ohio. Astor preceded her in death in 1998. She was a member Delta Sigma Phi, several bridge clubs, and volunteered for the American Cancer Society. Phyllis enjoyed many activities, cooking, baking, needle work, gardening, flower arranging and poetry writing. She loved to talk politics and watch the Detroit Tigers and college basketball. She was a voracious reader and an avid crossword puzzle solver. Phyllis is survived by two daughters, Deborah (Kim) Ware of Battle Creek, Priscilla Iden of Kalkaska; two sons, Stephen (Barb) Jacobs of Galesburg, Roger (Sheila) Jacobs of Battle Creek; twelve grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two sisters, Priscilla Benson of Birmingham, Michigan and Dorothy (Don) Far of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband Astor, Phyllis was preceded in death by two sisters. At the request of the family, friends may call at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home after 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, January 27, 2010 where the family will receive friends, and at 1:30 p.m., a memorial services will be held, with Father Brian Coleman of the St. Thomas Episcopal Church officiating.
