Jane C. Daly

Jane C. Daly Battle Creek Jane C. Daly, 96, died Monday, February 1, 2010 at Evergreen Senior Care & Rehabilitation Center. She was born June 22, 1913 in Battle Creek, the daughter of Jeff and Jennie (Shaffer) Choffin and was a 1932 graduate of Battle Creek Central High School. In addition to raising a family, Jane worked at many jobs throughout her life. She completed her career as a secretary/typist for the Family & Children's Service of Calhoun County, were she retired in 1977 as the office manager. Jane was first united in marriage to Leon J. Ellis in 1933 and is survived by her daughter, Sharon L. (Jim) Birdwell of Nashville, TN. Later on May 28, 1948, Jane was again united in marriage to James B. Daly in Battle Creek; he preceded her in death in 1980 and a son James J. Daly of Battle Creek was born from that union; Jane is also survived by five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Jane volunteered many hours at the former Doca Nursing Home and taught many immigrants to read, write, and speak the English language. She enjoyed following the stock market and in her earlier years, loved to dance, she and her husband would travel extensively dancing to the big bands of the day. Friends may call after 1 p.m. Saturday, February 6, 2010 at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home were a memorial services to celebrate her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., with Pastor Robert G. Muirhead officiating, followed by interment at Oak Hill Cemetery next to her husband. Friends who wish may make memorial contribution to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
