Russell Sawicki Obituary

Russell Joseph Sawicki (age 27) was freed from his bravely fought battle with sarcoma cancer in Bellingham, WA on July 8, 2008. Russell was born on January 6, 1981 in Denver, CO. to David and Gaye Sawicki. Before earning his BA in economics from the University of Colorado in 2003, he attended Klein Forest High School in Houston, TX, graduating in 1999. Russ was a very active leader and loyal brother in the Sigma Nu fraternity, holding numerous leadership positions. His magnetic personality also carried over into his work with the University of Colorado's Intra-Fraternity Council. Russell was an extremely compassionate, caring, committed, loyal and witty friend/brother/son to all who knew him. He will be profoundly missed. Russell is survived by his beloved fiancée, Ms. Claire Loudis; his devoted parents: Gaye and David Sawicki of Blaine, WA; brother and best friend: Jonathan Sawicki of Houston, TX; grandfather Walter Joseph Sawicki Jr. of Rancho Bernardo, CA; aunts: Sue Thomas of Tampa, FL., Ahme Erickson of Redding, Connecticut; uncles: John Sawicki of Escondido, CA, Rick Lett of Whidbey Island WA, and Joseph Sawicki of Los Angeles, CA.; cousins: Amanda Zimmer of San Diego, CA., Emily Erickson of Redding, Connecticut, Peter Lett of Whidbey Island WA, and many very dear friends. As in all his earthly endeavors, Russ was tenacious, yet loving and inspirational to others as he struggled against the disease that took his life. A celebration of Russell's life will be held at a later date in Houston, TX. Memorial contributions may be made to the Sarcoma Foundation of America, 9884 Main Street, Damascus, Maryland, 20872. Please include "In memory of Russell Sawicki" on your contributions.

I met Russ through my brother who is fighting the same terrible cancer that Russ fought. Although I only met him a few times, he left a positive impression on me. When I saw him, his courage warmth and never surrender values and attitude were always present and encouraged us though our association with him. He is missed. My thoughts and prayers go out to you.

Love,

Marc Isaac

I'll always remember Russell working the roast beef sandwich stand at the Lynden Fair with the Youth Group. He was an amazing young man with a wonderful smile. He fought a hard battle and is now at peace. Our deepest heartfelt sympathy goes out to Gaye, David, Jonathan, Claire & family,
