Jonathan Snyder Obituary

Died on June 17, 2007. He was 25. Born in Newton, MA he lived in Needham and Carlisle, MA before moving to Mendham in l991. Jon was a 1999 graduate of The Delbarton School. In 2003, he earned a B.S. degree in engineering from Tufts University where he served as president of Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity. Jon played ice hockey for Delbarton and for the Morris County Colonials. He was an avid skier and played base guitar in a Boston-area band. He was a devoted Red Sox fan. In June of 2006, Jon fulfilled a life-long dream by joining the U.S. Army. He was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant on January 25, 2007 and was serving with the Army Corp of Engineers at Ft. Leonard Wood in Missouri. Survivors include his parents James and Sarah (Hunt) Snyder; one brother William R. Snyder of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, one sister Katherine M. Snyder of Mendham, one uncle Wendell L. Snyder and two aunts Patricia Marks and Elizabeth Sherman. He is also survived by several cousins and many friends. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 22, 2007 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. at the Bailey Funeral Home, 8 Hilltop Road, Mendham, NJ 07945 (973) 543-4720. The Funeral will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at St. Mary's Abbey at Delbarton School. Everyone will meet at St. Mary's Abbey on Saturday. The procession will form at Delbarton, and interment will be at Hilltop Cemetery in Mendham. For those desiring, donations may be made in Jon's memory to The Delbarton School, 230 Mendham Road, Morristown, NJ 07960-4899 or to Tufts University, Medford, MA 02155-7049.
