To the family and friends of CPL Jeremy Shank, I am so sorry for your loss. Although I do not know you I just wanted to share the following… Yesterday I participated in the ‘7th Annual Cpl Christopher G. Scherer Run' in Northport, NY'. This was the first time I signed up for the 4 mile run that is held in honor of Cpl Christopher Scherer and all the men and women who have given their lives in service. On each runners bib number there were four names listed of soldiers that made the ultimate sacrifice. At the end of the race after passing the finish line, each runner rang a bell four times in honor of each of the names on their bib. So... I just wanted to share that CPL Jeremy Shank was one of the soldiers that was named on my running bib. Therefore, thought you may like to know about this event and how each solider that sadly died in Operation Iraqi Freedom was honored.

Hey, Shank. It's been four years, eight months, and twenty-five days since you started guarding Heaven's streets. It still doesn't seem real. Yesterday was Memorial Day. I meant to post then, but I just didn't get to it. Sorry 'bout that. Once again, though...thanks. For everything.
All my love.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there us injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

Dear family of Jeremy Shank,
i do not know Jeremy personally or really know anything about him at all but i am truly sorry for your loss. I am 17 years old and seeing something like this where someone only 1 year older than me is brave enough to fight and die for our country is just amazing. i am truly honored that he did this for us and i hope all of you feel the same way. Thank you very much for letting him do this. He will be remembered forever in the hearts of many.

Dear Shank Family,

My name is Kayla Ellis, and I am 16 years old. You do not know me, and I do not know you. I found this tribute to Jeremy because of an assignment for school. We were supposed to find a Missouri soldier who had been killed in war and write a reflection or our reaction to the website. I had not thought much of the assignment, but then again I never would have believed that I would find someone two years older than I am that had died in war. When I found Jeremy and saw that he was only 18 years old it brought tears to my eyes and I did not even know him. I had intended on just reading a couple things that people had wrote, but instead I read every page. I even feel like I know Jeremy personally. I am sorry for your loss, and I will be praying for your family everyday.

In Memory of Jeremy ~ (Debra Estep)

September 6, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Jeremy, but I am remembering
his service. He is my hero. !

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Jeremy was a good guy. Him and my brother were best buds. They hung out quite a bit, and I still can't believe that Jer is gone. To the Shank Family, everyone of Jackson loved him, and Mike is taking care of things. I know that doesn't really help, but it may do something. Words can't describe what I felt when we got that phone call. I burst into tears and wouldn't talk to anyone. But he's with God in heaven, and I can garuntee you that he's having a blast, and can't wait to spend time with you again.

Father God, please protect the Shank family. Be with them through everything, for I know of their hardships and know they need strength. Lord, please keep them in Your loving arms, and please, Lord, please, help them to remember that You took another warrior angel home to live with you in paradise, and that they will see him again once they reach our final destination. All this I ask in Your most holy and gracious name. Amen.

Shank family: I realize my name among many others may not mean much, but you know me, and you know how much this effected all of us. All i can say is to leave everything in God's hands. He WILL protect you and give you strength.
God's blessings always,

To the Shank family, you don't know me, but I wanted to say that I am sorry for your loss. I myself served in Iraq from September 2005 to November 06. I know that the pain is unbearable, and I am saddened that I am writing in another guest book. Three of my "Brothers" were killed on 04May06 and I feel the pain that you are going through. If this person can stand in battle to ensure my freedom, then I will stand in grief with his/her family to honor him/her. For every fallen HERO there is a bright star that shines in the evening sky to remind us of the cherished gift we were given – even if for too short a time.
My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courageous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guest book for the rest of my life, but I promised LE RON A. WILSON (a dear friend KIA 7/6/07, 18yrs old) that neither he nor any like him would be forgotten and so I will continue until the day there is no longer the need.

“Soldier”
Written to Honor the Service of Our Fallen Soldiers

Soldiers write history, we pay the price
Many miles distant, you live the life
Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still

We hope and pray that all will find peace
In God, in the flag, in memories of valor
Gone now, our pride and courage you see
“An Army of One” our motto forever

Willing to risk all for love of our Brothers
We’re still Your Soldiers…and we showed the way
Our Lives too short, now pray for the others
Lived free died Heroes in lands far away

Deep within souls all cherished our Service
We’ll always have what some never know
Courage and Honor, our names forever
Lived life with purpose…just our time to go

We march in the Heavens with Honor and Glory
Missions accomplished we fought the Good Fight
Many years from now…we’ll tell the full story
Until that Day we will live in the Light

Our lives we laid down in a land far away
Still watching o’er you this night and by day
No need to talk…just know we are with you
There in your hearts and we hear what you pray

Yes we are your soldiers
Our lives we laid down
Still We guard o’er you
Still Duty bound

Entered the Battle of our own free will
Out of Duty for Country, and we’d do it still
We’ll always have what some never know
Lived life with purpose…it was our time to go

Hopefully knowing that your beloved son will never be forgotten. My sincere condolences to Jeremy's family and friends. I spent this first morning of 2007 reading the New York Time's list of the service men and women who died in Iraq in 2006 and was particularly struck by the 2 18 year old men who were killed. That is so very young. I thank you for Jeremy's service.

Dearest family of Jeremy~
I was filled with grief when I heard of Jeremy's death and I continue to be filled with a pit o sorrow deep within my heart. I didn't know Jeremy very well, I had met him once or twice while I was visiting family in Hawai'i. I found this site and I really just wanted you to know that you are not alone in your acts of grieving and although I didn't know Jeremy very well, I know whenever something horrible happens to someone close to you, it helps so much just to know that someone prays for you and your family and friends every night before they go to bed. And in this instance, that person is me. You don't know me, and I certainly don't know you, but I share your greif, along with everyone who greives for similar reasons. I think I somewhat understand what you're going through, and I know you find that hard to beleive and I know I hate it when people tell me the they understand. I just want to tell them to go away and leave me to my own greif, even though deep down, grief is better off to be shared. Once you know someone cares about you, someone you don't even know, the world seems at peace, even though it is hardly so. May God bless you and your family and I'll let you know that I pray and cry for you and everyone who knows or knew someone who fought so bravely in Iraq and the surronding areas. We shall make sure they didn't die in vain. It is our duty.
Please remember that there are so many people in this world that love you so much and you don't even know them. Never give up trying to fill the hole in your hearts. I never did.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I did not know your son personally but my heart still goes out to you and your family.

September 19, 2006

To the Family of Pfc. Jeremy R. Shank:

My heart breaks again as I sign yet another guest book of another courgeous young soldier who gave their life so selflessly. I wish I never found myself in a position to have to sign another guestbook for the rest of my life. We lost a son 12/1/05 and it seems like yesterday.

I know first hand there are no words right now that will bring you the comfort and peace you need. Just know that you are not alone. My heart, thoughts, and prayers are with you all as you mourn this loss. We don't know each other, will probably never meet, but will forever be united in the loss of our Heroes. We have, unfortunately joined a group none of us wanted to join, an ever-growing group of families in this situation. May God grant you peace and strength to get through this and be able once again to smile at a memory rather than have only the tears that flow so easily now. To be so proud of your loved one and so saddened at the same time is a mix of emotions very difficult to deal with. I am sorry that I never knew your soldier personally, but none of these courageous men and women will be forgotten. They will never be able to be replaced, but sometime, someday your loving memories will help to sustain you. This courageous soldier will forever now be your Angel watching over you all for the rest of your lives. It's what brings me some measure of peace and comfort and I hope it will you as well. To his family and friends in pain, I offer this comfort: When you find yourself in that dark sorrowful place, think not only of how you will miss him, but instead recall the years, days, hours and minutes gifted to you by his presence. The one thing that cannot be taken from you is those wonderful memories that now will mean more than ever. If you ever want to talk, I'm only an e:mail away and would love for you to tell me more about your Hero. God Bless this courageous soldier and family.

Words can't bring Jeremy home alive. Yet I sure hope the sight of all of us, whether PGR or local, who took time to stand for you; was enough to give you even one second of time where something else crept in and took hold besides grief.

It was an honor to serve you, and we will be here for you.

"Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of tender mercies and the God of all comfort, 4 who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those in any sort of tribulation through the comfort with which we ourselves are being comforted by God.” - 2 Corinthians 1:3,4.

To the family of Jeremy,

I'm one of the loadmasters who had the honor of carrying Jeremy part of the way home. Having lost a son of my own, I understand how you are feeling right now and spent the entire flight thinking about what you are going through. Even though my crew and I never knew him, his loss affected us greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time in your life. He is someone none of us will ever forget.

To The Shank Family;

Jeremy has been and always will be an inspiration to the men of 2-27 Infantry, WOLFHOUNDS. As his Battalion Commander, I have seen first hand how his sacrifice has served as a rally cry for the men of this command. I am truly honored to serve in his memory and his dedication to duty has made this incredible unit even more united in a common bond.

The Shank Family will always be part of this Wolfhound Family. Nothing I say will ever fully maked up for the loss of this exceptional young man. I only hope and pray that you can find peace in the fact that he died doing something he loved and around people who equally loved him.

Forever Grateful;

Drew Meyerowich
