I only met Chuck once, at Mark and Ronnie's wedding and was impressed by his friendliness, not to mention how loved he was by all who knew him.
I am reminded of a phrase from memorials read in Lodge:

Chuck was a wonderful man. He was very intelligent, hard working, and funny. He was a great asset to EP&S of VT. I know he will be greatly missed by all of his co-workers. My thoughts and prayers go out to ALL of his family & friends in this difficult time. Peace be with you all!!

I'm so glad to have worked with Chuck on many clean-ups throughout the State. I've always been impressed with how he approached each project and how he would go over and above to do what was needed and to ensure the impacted party's concerns were addressed. I'll miss our numerous phone and email work conversations since we would always catch up on what the other was doing outside of work and we'd usually laugh out loud about something the other had said. Having someone like Chuck on the contractor side of things made my job so much easier. My thoughts are with Chuck's family and friends.

It has been years since I have seen you all, but your family was always welcoming and always fun to be with. It is no wonder Chuck is remembered so fondly by so many. You may not remember, but I remember dinners at your house, playing piano in your living room, Chuck taking me to high school dances, and - yes - even a softball induced black eye! I work for EPS of Vermont (in the Syracuse office). I met Chuck once and have talked to him many times since. I am so very sorry to hear of your loss, and ours. He was so looking forward to his brother's wedding and the trip out west. Chuck impressed me with his work ethic, and he was always interested in getting the job done right. He was one of the good guys and a plesure to work with. Take care of each other through this difficult time. May you find strength each day in the coming months (and years).

To the Baser family,
Although I haven't seen Chuck in almost 10 years, he was an important part of my life experience. When I think of my years at Colgate, the happy times we had together often come to mind. Chuck was someone that I was always looking forward to seeing again, and I am extremely saddened that this will not happen. I am going to miss my friend Chuck dearly. Although I haven't seen Chuck in many years he was still in my thoughts. We had so much fun together with the rest of the kids in youth ministry. My most memorable trip was the one to Alabama. Now it seems like so long ago.

Chuck has always had a special place in my heart. His love of the outdoors and genuine kindness made us friends from our first days at Gatehouse. What an interesting person - someone who could work with his hands, handle himself in the woods, and be a ham on stage belting out a song. I am so sorry to hear this news.

I share your sadness over Chuck's passing. Chuck/Zummi and I sang bass together in the Colgate 13. I loved him from the moment I saw him front a band his freshman year. Together we sang on the east coast but more memorably in Europe. We were inseparable for weeks. On one memorable Sunday, we sang mass in St. Peter's, Vatican City, then celebrated in our hotel by watching Mike Tyson's would-be notorious ear chomp. Later that summer, when he didn't call us before a Phish festival, we (13'ers) kept shouting "ZUMMI!" across the hordes in the genuine hopes that he'd surprise us. He has always been remembered well, and he forever will. That boy's about to out-sing the angels.

Chuck was a smart and talented guy who cared deeply about his friends. Though I hadn't seen Chuck in several years, I'll miss his quick wit and warm spirit. He brought a unique energy to his performances with the Colgate Thirteen that changed the lives of those who heard him sing. When "Zummi" crooned "Mack the Knife" for audiences across the country, he conveyed an unforgettable blend of joy, confidence and gusto. He made the song so special.

The coffee table that Chuck and Pete made for us a dozen years ago is still in our living room today. Every other piece of furniture in the room has been replaced over the years, but that table remains the center of it. We will miss him.

Chuck was always a happy and sweet face to see next door. I know how much he loved to be at home with Marianne and Fred and I always saw him helping out by shoveling the roof, watering plants or watching Oreo. Many times I waved to him from the kitchen at 1am when he was returning from a night with his friends and I was getting milk, Motrin, ect. for one of the boys.
