My condolences to all of Joseph's family, friends and colleagues.
I never met him but his music with Rahsaan brought many Bright Moments into my life and will continue to do so.

Joseph was a good friend of my father and mother and I had met him on a few occasions while growing up. Brief as they may have been, he has always been an inspiration to me for following his dreams with such passion. Without his stories, I may not have followed mine to the fullest...
Rest easy, Joseph.

To Donna and other members of Joseph's immediate and larger family.
I was privilieged to travel on several trips to the USA with Joseph when he and I were "accompanying spouses" as our respective wives carried on their library business. We spent many hours walking around his old haunts and the stories he told! Even as we paused to break bread he was still talking about when he and the band were in the vicinity.
However, to show the depth of the man, he was also an avid photographer. Having assisted and studied with the great Karsh, Joseph had an eye for detail, colouring and lighting. Some of his photos are truly amazing, so lifelike!
Musician, photographer, family man, Joseph had his opinions but he also let you say your piece. His was a bubbling personality: always ready with a gentle word of wisdom as he had seen and experienced so much.
One can never truly know the complete individual behind the public persona. The forces and influences which have shaped a person as they have been nurtured and buffeted through the formative years and later on in life are so vast as to defy definition. Yet Joseph survived and was a most sociable and giving individual.
His lively presence on the planet will be missed. There will be an empty spot in the country he adopted: his beloved Canada. However, there will always be a part of him present, through his music and photos, as well as in the memories of the many that he touched wherever he travelled.
Rest in peace my friend. May your continuing journey be one of tranquility and harmony.

I had met and knew Habao from my many trips to Ottawa. I saw him with Rahsaan and he was a Master.
May he rest in peace with the rest of the Masters that have joined the Orchestra in the Sky.
