DENNISPORT —

Rudolph J. "Rudy" Schwenk, 81, of Dennisport, died Friday, June 6, 2008, at his home with his loving family around him. He was the beloved husband of Kay (Aho) Schwenk for 56 years.

Born, raised, and educated in Punxsutawney, Pa., Mr. Schwenk was the son of the late Rudolph and Mary (Matynka) Schwenk. He moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where he worked for General Electric prior to enlisting in the Navy in 1944. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Seaman First Class in 1946 and then served in the reserves for 10 years.

Mr. Schwenk moved to Marlboro, married his wife in 1952, and raised his family there. He was a self-employed lathing contractor for 12 years, and he worked as a truck driver for Inland Express for 19 years before moving to Dennisport in 1981. He is a retired member of the Local 170 Teamsters of Worcester. While living in Dennisport, Mr. Schwenk was employed at Hinckley Home Center and was later self-employed.

A member of the American Legion Plewacki Post in Buffalo, N.Y., for more than 60 years, Mr. Schwenk was also a member of the Immaculate Conception Eccumenical Drum and Bugle Corps of Marlboro for six years. He was a tried and true New York Yankees fan, and he loved the beaches and natural beauty of Cape Cod.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Schwenk is survived by a son, Rudy Schwenk and his wife, Sandra, of South Dennis; five daughters, Robin Johnson and her husband, Donald, of Byfield, Elaine Starks and Maureen Dill, both of Dennisport, Mary Ellen Blood and her husband, Ted, of Cornelius, N.C., and Debra Osier and her husband, Douglas, of South Dennis; two sisters, Anna Drake of Southboro and Wanda Kwiatkowski of Simi Valley, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and wonderful friends.

The Schwenk family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, Hospice and Palliative Care, for their support and care 24/7.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Tuesday, June 10, in Holy Trinity Church, Main Street, West Harwich.

Interment will follow at 1:15 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne.

Visiting hours will be held from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, June 9, in the Hallett Funeral Home, 273 Station Ave., South Yarmouth.

Memorial donations may be made to the Visiting Nurse Association of Cape Cod, Hospice and Palliative Care, 434 Route 134, Suite G, South Dennis, MA 02660.
