James Morris Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2008.
MISSION VIEJO, Calif. — James J. Morris Jr. died on May 31, 2008, at the age of 55 after a year and a half battle with cancer.

Formerly of Natick and Norfolk, Jimmy was the much loved son of James J. Morris and the late Winifred T. Morris. He graduated from Natick High School in 1970, where he was a star athlete in hockey and baseball.

He added to his long list of athletic accomplishments while at Saint Anselm College in New Hampshire. Before graduating, he was recognized many times for his outstanding hockey skills and was named to the All America College Hockey Squad in 1975. He went on to play professional hockey in the St. Louis Blues organization for two seasons. He was the first inductee of the Saint Anselm Athletic Hall of Fame.

He owned pool and spa installation companies in Framingham and Norfolk for many years. He moved to Colorado in 1993, where he continued to design and install award-winning pools and water features, including The Broncos Running in Water at Invesco Field at Mile High Stadium in Denver.

Jimmy maintained long friendships with many of his teammates from high school and college. In his spare time, he put his artistic talents toward furniture making and wood carving. A couple of his wood carvings of eagles won prizes at juried art shows. He moved to Mission Viejo, Calif., in 2005.

Jimmy leaves his two children, Hailie Ingrid Morris and Jameson Cormay; and his former wife, Lynn Cormay, all of Forestdale. His father, Jim, still resides in Natick.

Donations in memory of Jimmy may be made to Buddy Dog Humane Society, 151 Boston Post Road, Sudbury, MA, 01776.

I am sorry to hear of Jimmy's passing. Our prayers go out to his family. Jimmy was a close childhood chum - I'm talking Murphy Elementary days in Natick. I have many fond memories of football in Jimmy's back yard or sledding on the Evan's field down into the Morris' yard and fried bologna sandwiches by Jimmy's Mom.

Inge and Jamie -I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your Dad. I have known Jimmy for 34 years, back to the days when he played for the Columbus Owls. Your Dad was a good hockey player and a great person, full of fun and laughter. I have many good memories of the times I spent with your Dad. Your Dad was so proud of both of you. My prayers and thoughts are with you.

The last time I saw Jimmy was at our reunion. He hung out with us almost the whole night. I remember feeling like we were just as good of friends that evening as we had always been. Time and distance had not changed a thing. Remember everyone how red Jimmy's face would get? He was so easy to embarrass!! (even his very small ears would light up). Great memories, great times...I know that his pain is gone...ours will lessen with time, but is memory and smile will always be a part of us and the class of 70!

I played for Coach Morris when he was at Framingham North HS 76-77. He was a superb athlete and mentor and brought renewed energy to the program.

Some of my best memories are of our hockey days practicing and playing with Jimmy 'mercury' Morris at St. Anselm.
