Verna MacLeod Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jun. 8, 2008.
NORTH CHATHAM — Verna P. (MacNeill) MacLeod, 81, wife of Gordon MacLeod, passed peacefully June 2, 2008, at Liberty Commons Rehabilitation & Skilled Care Center in North Chatham.

Born in Dorchester, she lived there, Stoughton, Easton, Needham, and Wayland for 16 years before moving to Cape Cod in 1982 after her husband retired.

She married very young to become a wife and mother, giving up a scholarship to the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston.

During World War II, she was one of many women who stepped up to the plate and took over for the men who went to war and worked at the Boston Naval Ship Yard.

When her children got older, she colored high school portraits for Lorings Studio in Boston for many years and was a nanny, and housekeeper, to a few families who will be sorry of her passing.

She was probably Frank Sinatra's biggest fan her whole life and loved the modern music her grandchildren listened to. She also loved kitties, especially Trixie and Patty. She will be greatly missed by all. She was a great Mom and "Niner."

She is survived by her husband Gordon of 63 years, and a sister, Doris Boyer, of St. Louis, Mo.,; three children, James MacLeod of Sacramento, Calif., and his wife, Lillian, and their daughters Katherine and Samantha; also her two daughters, Donna MacLeod of Dennisport and Christine (MacLeod) Wilson of East Harwich and husband, Brian, and their four children, Jeff of Burlington, Vt., Andrea of Yarmouth, Jennifer and Lisa of East Harwich. She was also Niner and very close to her grandson, Mark Wilson, who passed in 2004. She was also lucky to have had the joy for the last two years of her first great-grandchild, Kali of Yarmouth.

Family requests no flowers or donations. Burial will be private.

Coutinho-Boisse Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements.

I have fond memories of visiting the MacLeod house as a good friend of Jim, and enjoyed Mrs. MacLeod and her cooking very much. Her passing touches us all. My wife and I still have the lovely glasses she gave us for our wedding. Her legacy will live on through her grandchildren and great grandchildren, and she will be missed by all.
Deepest sympathy from Rich, Araxie, and our daughters Anna and Kari to Jim and Lillian, Chrissie and Brian, Donna, and of course Mr. MacLeod and all the kids. We wish we could be there to offer support.
