NAPLES, Fla. —

Geneva "Ginny" Doonan McKenna, 87, a resident of Harbor Chase of Naples, formerly of Hamden, Conn., and West Harwich, passed away June 7, 2008.

Born Geneva Jane Miles on Feb. 25, 1921, in McColl, S.C., Geneva was a graduate of Winthrop College in Rock Hill, S.C., During World War II, Geneva was commissioned as an officer in the Navy WAVES, serving in various administrative positions. Following her service time, Geneva married Gregory F. Doonan of Hamden, Conn., where they resided and raised their family.

Geneva was a business education teacher for more than 20 years and served as a department head at Hamden High School. In addition, Geneva was a member of the Mount Carmel Women's Club, the National Education Association and the business education fraternity, Delta Pi Epsilon.

Following the death of her first husband, she married James McKenna, and upon retirement, they traveled between Cape Cod and Naples. In Naples, they resided in the Lakewood golfing community. Geneva enjoyed travel, reading, cooking and solving crossword puzzles as well as playing golf and bridge with friends.

Geneva was a devoted mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren. Geneva was preceded in death by a brother, Raymond Miles; two children, Kevin Doonan and Judith O'Kane; stepson, John McKenna; and husbands, Gregory B. Doonan and James A. McKenna.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Karen Doonan of Wallingford, Conn.; stepchildren, James McKenna and wife, Carol, of Thousand Oaks, Calif., and Ellen-Jeanne McKenna-Hieb and husband, Louis Hieb, of Carlisle, Pa.; daughter-in-law, Elizabeth McKenna, of Southport, Maine; son-in-law, Chris Jansson, of Naples; and grandchildren, Alex O'Kane, Kelley, Meghan and Gregory Doonan, and Mark McKenna, Jennifer Baron and Preston Hieb; and six great-grandchildren.

A funeral Mass will be held at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church, Naples, on Friday, June 20, at 10 a.m., followed by a private interment in St. Peter's Columbarium.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be given to Avow Hospice of Naples, Fla.
