YARMOUTHPORT —

Susan Burtchaell (Freyer) Kidwell, age 82, of Yarmouthport, passed away Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at Cape Cod Hospital.

Sue was the beloved wife of the late Francis E. Kidwell, who passed in June of 1999.

Born in Rye, N.Y., on Nov. 6, 1925, she was the daughter of the late William N. Freyer and Susan B. Freyer. She was a graduate of Northwestern University.

She is survived by seven children, Kip Kidwell of Bellevue, Wash., Bill Kidwell of Yarmouth, Michael Kidwell of Dennis, Susan Markin of Seattle, Wash., Peter Kidwell of Arlington, Mary Reardon of Dennis and Liz Worden of Providence, R.I.; and 10 grandchildren, Molly, Olivia, Riley, Suzie, Rachel, Charlie, Bob, Ashley, Abigail and Andrew.

In 1970, Sue opened the Northside Nursery School in Yarmouthport and spent 25 years educating and nurturing children from all over Cape Cod. She was very proud of the school and happy that it is still a vibrant part of the community.

She was known for her talents in the creative arts, including pastels, oil paint and watercolor. Additionally, she was a longtime, active member of the Cranberry Rug Hookers, where she had many valued friendships.

She loved travel and language and treasured her visits to France, Iceland, Italy and Egypt.

She cherished her many friends on the Cape and especially enjoyed getting together with them over breakfast at Jacks Out Back and the Sesuit Harbor Café.

Friends may call at the Doane, Beal & Ames Funeral Home, 729 Route 134, South Dennis, on Monday, July 14, from 4 until 7 p.m. Her memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 15, at 10 a.m., in the Cape Cod Covenant Church, 11 Satucket Road, Brewster. A private burial for family will happen at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Sue Kidwell to The Cape Cod Museum of Art, P.O. Box 2034, Dennis, MA 02638.

Sue's daughter, Mary was my daughter,Kathleen's close friend all during hgh school and beyond. Sue and I would meet for coffee at Jacks' Out Back and discuss our 'girls'. She was a calming influence on me during our children's teen years. I always admired Sue and her cheerful outlook on life. Sue brightened a room, just by walking into it. I'll miss her.

Dear Michael, Beth and the entire Kidwell clan:
We are so sorry to hear about your Mom, Michael. Beth had told us she was having difficulties earlier this year, and I have thought of you during this time. My Mom passed in 2005 after a long illness and I know it's been a difficult and sad time for you and will continue to be for a time. The photo chosen to be with her life's portrait is just beautiful. Reading her obituary, I thought, what a rich life she had. I wish I had met her. We are sad for your sadness. We will see you soon. We are coming down for the services. We will see you soon. With love, Susan and Gary Kerr.

Dear family,

The loss of our friend, Sue, will be greatly felt at our weekly rug hooking meetings. I am so happy that she was able to join us for our "end of the season" luncheon recently in June. I took pics of that event and will share them with you all. We all thought she looked thin but wonderful. She was delightful to be with as usual.

She made our rug hooking group extra special with her attendance.

Sue will be dearly missed by all of us.

Fondly, Barb Muscatel

Several of Sue & Pat's children attended school with some of my children, and I counted Sue as a friend. She was always up-beat with a quick smile. We also for a time shared the long bus commute into Boston for our respective jobs, and her compansionship made the trip much pleasanter. My deepest sympthy to her family.
