Lawrence Dobb Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 15, 2008.
EAST BERLIN, Conn. — Lawrence Michael Dobb, 61, of East Berlin and Eastham, died Saturday, July 12, 2008, at St. Francis Hospital, surrounded by his loving family.

Born in Newton, Mass., Larry was the son of the late Barbara Marie Lee and Francis L. Dobb. He was the beloved husband of Linda Dobb.

For more than 36 years, Larry served in the institutional investment field, combining his love of people and drive for success as a marketing officer for pension fund investment products. Most recently, Larry was an executive director at UBS Realty Investors LLC responsible for more than 200 of the firm's client relationships. Larry began his career in the investment area of Aetna in 1972 and rose there to a director of National Accounts in Aetna's 13-state west region. Larry was one of the key figures in the growth of assets under management for UBS Realty and its predecessor entities, Aetna Realty Investors and Allegis Realty Investors.

Larry was a member of the Pension Real Estate Association. Throughout his career, he was known not only as a valued colleague and trusted client adviser, but also a friend to everyone in the industry.

An alumnus of Eastern State University and Rockville High School, both in Connecticut, Larry proudly served for four years in the Navy's Polaris Submarine Fleet on the George C. Marshall during the Vietnam War from 1967-1971.

Larry is survived by his wife, Linda Rider Dobb; two daughters, Erin Dobb and Kelly Herzog, both of Manchester; a son, Christopher Dobb of Penrun, Calif.; two sisters, Eileen Dobb of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Judi Ohrt of Vernon; and a brother, George Dobb and wife Mary Dobb of Hamden. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Jody Searing and husband Gary of Cheshire, and Jeffrey Abelli of Danbury, as well as several grandchildren and nephews, John Ohrt of Portland, Maine, Michael Ohrt of Falmouth, Maine, and Colman Dobb of Hamden.

Larry's greatest joy and peace was found at his home on Cape Cod, walking the beach and his garden surrounded by birds and wildlife. His last wishes included bringing about an awareness and education about pancreatic cancer and the hope of early detection and better testing with a cure being possible for others afflicted with this disease. He asked that donations go to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, 2141 Rosecrans Ave., Suite 7000, El Segundo, CA 90245, or go to http://larrydobb.blogspot.com/.

Funeral will be held from the Sisk Brothers Funeral Home, 3105 Whitney Ave., Hamden, on Thursday morning at 9:30 a.m., followed by Mass of Christian burial in St. Rita Church, at 10. Friends may call on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m.

Dear Family,
We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Larry's passing.
We are part of the old ECSU college friends' group. Larry was a roommate, partier, confidant, and even an usher at our wedding (9/2/1976). When he decided to go "navy" my father (Chief Mac) helped him out getting in the sub service!
Even though we lost track, Larry will always be in our hearts.
Sincerely,
Carolyn and Ron Valluzzi

Dear Chris,
I was saddened for you, to hear of your Dad's passing. Though I haven't seen you since we were kids - some 30 years ago, I have thought of you often, and wondered how you were. Please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Warm regards,
Rev. Denise (Plante) Terry

To Linda and Family:
My thoughts are with you folks now with your loss. Larry was an exceptional individual with a great sense of humor, especially on a Golf course. I always marveled at Larry's ability to help his family and friends in time of need. My wife and I will truely miss him.

To Linda and family. Please except my condolences, for the lost of Larry. Larry was a wonderful person, whom I did'nt have the pleasure of knowing for many years as most of my UBS family has. But the time that I did know him was a pleasure. He was my friend, and I thank God for allowing me the opportunity of knowing Larry. May Bless you and your family. Shelly Andrews (The Receptionist)
